What is the Rarest Kill Icon in TF2?

I'm sure at one point or another you've looked at the killfeed, seen a strange-looking picture, and thought, "what in the world is that?" TF2's kill icons are pretty inconsistent, with most of the "obscure" kills being denoted by the default skull and crossbones icon. So seeing a rare kill that actually HAS a unique icon is an especially unlikely find. This video looks to find which icons are the rarest to see, both in casual and in TF2 overall.

Also, if you're wondering what's up with the kill icons in the background gameplay, I forgot I installed an icon fix pack a while ago. I personally very much dislike the default icons, but that's a video for another day

Fun fact, this went unused in game, but if it was used, the deflected headshot flaming arrow would likely be the most uncommon kill icon

Kinda wish there was an icon for telefrags, that'd be pretty funny.

Honorable mention: a spectator killing a member of either team. this USED to be possible with the Crusader's crossbow: If a medic fired a bolt and changed teams while the bolt was still in-flight, the bolt would also change ownership. If the medic swapped to spectator mid-flight, it would do damage instead of healing, and the team-color for the kill icon's text would be grey instead of red or blue.

I’ve actually gotten a kill with a reflected rescue ranger projectile once. The engi and I were both equally surprised

The Lumbricus Lid's unique kill icon actually used to be a lot more common since back when it was added, having the Rocket Jumper equipped would negate the Kamikaze taunt's self-damage. It was fairly common to see a variation of Trolldier in Hightower servers dedicating themselves to taunt kills.

Crit spy knife is actually super common; you forgot about end of round victory rampages. The spies are critted and still forget they have a gun while slicing up defenceless enemy guys
  • 7:23 You forgot to mention that the Engineer will more often than not be sitting almost on, if not literally on, his dispenser. So yeah, it's even worse.

I once got killled by the reflected rescue ranger bolt when I was just spamming rescue ranger bolts on a 5cp map once

One time I got headshotted by a pyro because it's a pyro in the killcam. Oddly enough I saw it being just an ordinary headshot icon, and I suspect the Pyro reflected a huntsman arrow into me and headshotted, and the TF2 wiki seems to back this up as well as a reflected huntsman headshot uses the same kill icon as the sniper rifle headshot.

@8:30 The crit boosted Holiday Punch kill icon is possible in-game if the Heavy is minicrit boosted, as the killfeed doesn't differentiate between crits/minicrits.

2:11 I remember I was on a 2fort server and a guy with a gold pan joined and dropped it for everyone and the entire kill feed was gold pan kills the whole match

As a Black Rose owner, I have exclusively used that when I play Spy and I genuinely wish that they would allow me to Strangify the damn thing. I know it's a weapon only like a few thousand of people own and it's just a prettier version of the stock knife, but 99% of the current playerbase likely only knows about this weapon because the wiki or they see ONE person play spy and get a butter knife kill with it.

Just a thought- because when you slap someone with a fish it shows how many times you hit them, wouldnt fish x99 or higher be rarer? Edit: as people are still looking through this comment, the maximum is x24 (thanks snivy!) Also, as some people are confused, this is in a real-game situation, not setting it up. It would be insane to be able to hit an overhealed heavy 24 times and then kill him while the heavy is shooting at you.
  • @StreifelXP
I like how you picked the best actual option and not just a super obscure single weapon 1 person has or something. Possible to happen in many games just so unlikely it never shows up.

I'M NOT EVEN KIDDING ABOUT THIS. I was watching this video while I waited to load in and I saw the holy hand grenade part and paused and went in. A couple minutes in and I saw some dude doing the pickaxe taunt kill with the hat on so i ran at him and let it happen.
  • @meemeleem
“situations that rarely happen” footage: reflected rocket kill
  • @XtremeOverload
Cool video. I actually renamed one of my Memory Makers to "The Cameo Appearance". Using it as a Demoknight (or in this case, Paparazzi Demo) is fun as hell.

I got one of those rescue ranger reflect kills last week! I remember seeing the icon and thinking "now there's something you don't see a lot" but I didn't think it would be that much rarer!
