Inspector Lunge is one of my favourite characters throughout fiction. Chasing Tenma like a madman and slowly but surely having to reconcile with the fact the true culprit is a man who in many ways doesn’t exist. Also his dealing with Roberto went hard

Welcome Ladies and Gentleman to another glourious video in which a man on copious amounts of drugs explains yet another anime that none of us actually undertand.
  • @matten_zero
Roberto was in some ways more terrifying than Johan. He was willing to kill and do whatever Johan told him. That one scene where he almost killed the psychologist was pretty terrifying

Honestly one of the best parts of this show is the character progression. The beauty of Urusawa’s writing is that in all of his stories (Monster, 20th Century Boys, Billy Bat, etc.) is that all the characters he writes feel so grounded while being caricatures of real people. I remember first watching this show and it’s like you’re growing with the characters. For me it was especially with Lunge and Eva, but hey changed so much throughout the show that it gave me so much comfort oddly enough. Basically what I’m trying to say is that Monster slaps, one of the few 10/10 anime

4:42 Small correction - neither twin has a name at this point, because when we see them collapsing near the Czech-German border (i.e. after leaving the Three Frogs behind), the sister begs her brother to call her by her name, but the boy simply responded "we don't have names". It wasn't until General Wolf found them, that Johan first recieved his name (there's a scene where Wolf flips through the picture book and selects the name for the boy)... it was never specified who named Anna, though.

same as your evangelion video, i tried putting this video as background noise but i end up watching the whole video because of the way you "make sense" of this anime or any other animes you tried to make sense of. i look forward to the next anime you try to make sense of, keep it up man.

watching johan gaslit detective richard into killing himself was hard to watch. very few animes have gotten that feeling out of me.

I've never respected someone so much, the quality and thought provoking questions you leave us in your videos is something to be proud of, thank you for making these videos.

Bro thank you so much for this video, I remember watching this show when I was around 14 and being so confused but enthralled with the story. I’m now 26 and this video is pulling up so many memories from my childhood and dreams about this show. Really one of the great classic anime’s. Fire video as usual, most people can’t make sense of the plot. But you did a great job explaining it all.
  • The show seems slow paced for my sperg brain, but from what Ive heard is that Johan is one of the most interesting characters, Im so stoked to watch this!
  • Amazing analysis that truly gave me a full perspective on the show. One thing I noticed while watching the show myself was that the title card that appears before a commercial break that says monster, usually shows up directly after a character shows of exhibits a monstrous trait

This is definitely of one the best anime of all time. It’s not you see such a carefully laid out plot, with complex characters, and with a mystery that keeps you hooked till the end. Especially not one in such a realistic setting. I think that’s what makes it so horrific at times. While it’s unlikely for such a thing to happen in theory it could and to certain extent similar things do happen all the time. I really like the doctor as well. A very good representation of a more pacifist ideology without making you want to pull your hair out over their choices. It’s a depiction of a realistically good person that wants to protect and save people in whatever he can.

  • @tjmanning
I read this whole manga in a week in 2008 and I loved it. This was a great way to relive the series! Thanks for the video, I can tell you’ve put a lot of hard work into these.
  • @DDRMR

This is incredibly well edited, the audios clean, the story telling and plot play by play is both succinct and informative. How the hell did I not find Sock sooner??
  • @skoomadealerr
