Love my Nigerian upbringing our parents were strict and frugal. My dad a medical doctor, mother nurse. I did my masters, we all educated in our household. My father was 100 percent making sure my school work was done and I came home on time. Mother the same thing. My father very talented and intelligent. Taught me so much about family structure, the importance of education, the love of being in a family. Beautiful.

When Nigerians say that Nigerian Americans are not really Nigerian, they dont mean that you are not Nigerian. They are just referring to the fact that they didnt grow up in Nigeria. Half the time they are teasing you lovingly saying you are American now. To them its like you are nigerian but sound american too. Its really teasing lovingly they actually don't mean you are not Nigerian. He might have missed the nuance.

We need more of the strict upbringing . I’m African American 68 years old and I’m immensely thankful for my strict upbringing.

IGBO LANDING is right by where Shannon was birthed near Brunswick GA. The name of a country didn’t exist yet the ppl of lineage to the region did!
  • @mybrotha8144
My Nigerian father said the same thing “You are going to be a doctor”😂

When I started hanging out with my Nigerian friends, first thing we noticed was that I pretty much grew up eating Nigerian food… in The South. Of course there are some diff ingredients but overall… the fkn same. We didn’t have Cassava. But we have same concept as Garri. We didn’t call it PuffPuff or Buns, but we had Hushpuppies and Frybread. The rice. Efo.. the spinach. The beans. The grilled fish. The stew. Same same but different. All that shxt is still in us. They would ask me if I know how to eat this, and I’m like bruh I grew up on this right here lol. Yours just SPICY / Peppa’d lol
