The American Legion in Newton stocked up on as many beverages as it could, but despite a record number of cyclists in RAGBRAI, the legion wasn't able to sell enough product.

  • Our nonprofit lost over 2600 dollars. For our place this was a huge loss. Oh they came and used our indoor bathrooms, sat in our a/c, ate free popcorn and drank our water. Four other business around us lost even more. They closed the roads on hwy 69 and cost the tax payers thousands in DOT manpower. Never ever again will I support this bunch

That was a longest day with the most amount of climbing. As far as planning was concerned, people were expecting a 99 degree day. It turned out to be less than that. People were likely more focused on getting to the end town that day.

It was just to hot and early to drink beer. I the people were more interested in retaining electrolytes. Also another note is that there was no shortage of beer. Some were even giving it away at private parties.

Beer on a long bike ride? Doesn't alcohol dehydrate the body? Makes no sense.

I'd much rather use marijuana on a long bike ride like RAGBRAI. Marijuana is a proven anti -inflammatory and helps speed muscle recovery. Plus it's just more fun.
