You may have seen pictures, comparing present-day Singapore with how it looked in the 1970s. Are you also blown away by the progress this small nation has made in such a short time? But as I dug deeper, I discovered there is more to Singapore’s success story than meets the eye.

When Singapore declared independence in 1965, most of its residents lived in slums. Around 70% of them.

But they had something that not every nation has: a visionary leader. Lee Kuan Yew had a difficult task ahead: ensuring Singapore’s survival in a region dominated by formidable neighbors.

Weeks later, the leader of the newly independent nation of Singapore gave a speech that will forever be remembered.

Today, Singapore ranks as the world’s fourth-richest nation per capita. With an average income of $106,000, Singaporeans are twice as wealthy as Americans and beat most Euroepans, too.

But is this the whole story? What have we not been told about Singapore’s success story? How did a small, poor country in Asia with almost no natural resources become so rich? I’m heading to Singapore to find the answers.

    1. Singapore's founding father Lee Kuan Yew and his team had far-sighted strategy and developed Singapore with clean , creative and effective leadership. The second and third generation leaders have inherited the good nation-building spirit. They really cared for the well-being of the nation and people. 2. Many THANKS for preparing and uploading this video. 3. It is hoped that some countries' leaders will be inspired by your video and do really good things for their people.

Singapore will still be the most livable country in ASEAN in next 10-15 years. The warmer weather impacts not only SG but all surrounding countries in this region as we're tropical countries. That guy came from a colder country he definitely can't find himself living here in next 10 years.

In 1972 I was 23 yrs old. Just starting out like Singapore. I have seen Singapore progression from than till now 2024. ‘Sentosa’ was call ‘Blakang Mati’ than. Not develop into a tourist destination yet. My basic military camp was here. 😳 Basically, Singapore got LKY and though Singapore was poor than, it started on a clean slate. These are the 2 main reasons why Singapore IS one of the richest country today. Singapore knows no corruption than. Corruption is like cancer. Once it set in, it’s difficult to eradicate. This is one of the main reason why countries cannot progress and remain in the ‘3rd world’ stage.

Many find good aspects of Singapore but still need to find something negative to say about it. It seems there needs to be a "balanced" view. Words like authoritarian or draconian are used without truly understanding why Singapore succeeds and is successful. In Singapore what is important is the well being of the community and Singaporeans are not like Westerners who put individualism ahead of the community. That is why different ethnic groups with different belief systems can live and work together. This is a very short presentation focused on how Singapore has progressed economically. There are so many other areas not considered like the hard work needed to improve the environment, racial and religious harmony and how despite being highly urbanised Singapore still has wildlife living in the city.

Of course, Singapore is liveable in 10-15 years and many more years.
  • Scary thought when dude commented will SG still be liveable in 10-15 years but LKY predicted ‘believe me the next thousand years we will be here!’🤔mmm who do I believe? Of course our great leader!

It is true that Singapore cannot grow as much trees as we can on this 735 sq km island. But we are trying our best by being at the forefront of sustainability reporting and finding innovtive ways to be more green. We are also conducting R & D on which may be of benefit to the wider environment.
  • Socrates was not a big fan of democracy … Democracy is a luxury that young nations can’t afford to have. Back in 1965 every Latin American nation was in better position than Singapore and richer. Look at Singapore and compare it to Latin America now, people have all the right to laugh. We don’t need to look at an extreme example like Latin America; Singapore has a higher GDP per capita than the USA and the UK which was the former colonial master of Singapore, how about that? Singapore is the 3rd most important financial center in the world after New York and London respectively. Singapore must not abandon discipline and/or follow the nonsense of Western nations.

Singapore always incorporates greenery in their buildings and every corners of the country for the last few decades. Saying in 15 to 20 years Singapore is not liveable and workers cannot work outside is shortsighted and laughable. Singapore does not have large areas of forest or jungle when it was colonised, to start with. We are not like jungle Borneo. We don’t have jungles and we can still live without it in decades to come.

There's no other world's leader has ever sincerely worried and cried for his/her country except Singapore's leader! For that as a Singaporean I'm willing to sacrifice my life for it to protect my country!

Singapore is sooooooooo fortunate to have LKY. ❤❤❤❤

Actually having a dictator as a leader is ok. In fact far better than a liberal/democrat. What is most important is that dictator must love the people and plan for the good of the country, not for himself or his cronies but for every one of his own people. Its like you having a very strict father, being strict is perfectly fine, as long as that strictness is out of love. We should accept it and work with him to make the family and everyone in it happy and prosperous.
  • @Negev-Israel
Singapore is the best example why we should say no to liberalism and the so called "Democracy"
  • @awequayzngs1780
All poor and corrupted nations would love to have LKY as their commander-in-chief. ❤❤❤❤

To progress and achive in something is always possible.Think out of the box, nothing is impossible. But the next challenge is to maintain this standards .Hmm.., it's not an easy task.. Well, i guess as long the Singaporean keep singing the national anthem 'Majulah Singapura' on the daily basis.Singapore should be moving foward and leading the world in it's own way.(Uniquely Singapore way 😊)
