here is a crazy trade that actually DID happen: Donovan Mitchell was originally drafted by the NUGGETS but was traded to the Jazz because the Nuggets were basically in win-now mode and traded for role players who they thought would develop faster

There's apparently 2 T-Mac trades that almost happened, too. After the '97 draft, the Lakers & Raptors were supposedly in discussions to trade Tracy's draft rights to the Lakers for Eddie Jones & Elden Campbell, but Jerry Buss nixed the deal. He didn't want the risk of having 2 teenagers on the team. In '99, the Sixers & Raptors were discussing trading T-Mac and a 1st round pick to Philly for Larry Hughes, but the Raptors got nervous and backed out after Stephen A. started reporting on the potential deal.
