exposing my Fulbright ETA stipend and how much it costs to live in Taiwan as an expat abroad teaching english. **ALL NUMBERS SUBJECT TO CHANGE **

Because a Fulbright scholarship is technically not service work, they won't disrespect you with a "service work" paycheck. Fulbright usually respects you with somewhere around the (lowest) average salary for workers in your placement site-- for Taiwan that meant twice the minimum wage. So google that, and you could probably estimate how much your stipend would be. But remember, every Fulbright site has their own secret sauce, so this might not be as copy and paste as it sounds.

These are the numbers from 2018, so they'll fluctuate based off inflation, changes to cost of living, sales at the bubble tea shop, you name it!

Right, also, I should legally protect myself πŸ˜…

some perspective from my friend currently living in Taipei Ok full disclosure. First I was like β€œgod dayum, well that’s a scandalous clickbait title.” Then I was uncontrollably laughing. Then you said you pay $2,000 on food per month, with western food treats counted, and I literally dropped my phone, walked away, looked in the mirror and said wtf is wrong w me πŸ€£πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ€£πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ’€πŸ₯Ί my food budget is ~6,700 😭😭😭😭😏😏😏😏 So, probably just double or triple the entire estimate of everything because it's clear I spent 10 years of my youth in Port St. Lucie, FL with no friends and a Jamaican mother who always said "there's food at home"
  • TY for sharing this, i started seeing this video because my daughter got into semifinalist for Fulbright in taiwan and i hope she could get it.
  • @evaivy5692
this is probably the most comprehensive breakdown of how much you'll spend living in Taiwan that exists on youtube and I can't even describe how helpful this was (& entertaining, obvi)
  • Wow. This is definitely the tea on it. Great information and really good to know for anyone considering this. And just love your energy and editing. Great video.
  • @vacationfun193
This was very extensive and thorough. I think you covered everything. Great information! I don’t think I’ll be going to Taiwan anytime soon though.
  • @seprincessa3972
This was so informative I’m not sure if I would ever go away to another country to go to school but if I decided at least it helps to have this information and it was very expensive
  • Thanks so much for all your videos!! They are so helpful- I am in the process of applying for Taiwan ETA for 2022 and was curious if you had any advice on which county/city I should put down. I know the western front is more urban and the east is more rural, but besides that, I don't know much and would love to know what you have to say about the different placement options.

I’m planning to apply to an ETA in Taiwan for 2022 and this channel has been INCREDIBLE!!! Seriously it is everything!! You are so entertaining, well spoken, and informative. I have so many questions. Did you need to dip into your U.S savings/checking account at all or did you just use what you made from Fulbright? Also what were your biggest challenges when in Taiwan and what were the things you loved most? Will I survive if I don’t feel comfortable driving a scooter? What is some advice you’d give someone applying that you wish you knew before going to Taiwan? Not that I think I will need to/want to.. but can you leave the country of Taiwan at all during your contract? I know every case is different also! I mainly want to know your biggest takeaways and things you LOVED the most!! & if you recommend Taiwan specifically for a Fulbright (which I think you do!) Thank you so much if you even read this, I love you girl!!
  • @heldanna
Girl you're so cool and funny I wish we could be friends 😭 tysm for this video <3
  • @JordanChrome88
$40,000 for a stipend sound like a reasonable amount. $18,000 for rent divided by 3 people is very affordable. I mean just slipping Bill's three ways is a great benefit. Taiwan sounds like the place I need to live lol. Thanks for the detailed breakdown.
  • Exposing my Fulbright ETA stipend, Brittany Edwards. Cool video! I like it. This channel is a box of chocolates. I never heard anyone describe their channel like that. But Tom Hanks was great in that movie. Forest Gump was the sh--. Hey look at you. You really do seem to have a flare for the dramatics. Your a girl of my own heart. I was big into theatre in school myself. And now we do YouTube.... lol. I think you did an awesome job with this video. I like how you present yourself on camera. I love the personality. I like how you edit. And I have been subx4scribed to you for over 8 months now. This is just me letting you know that I still watch you. Cause I'm a supporter for life.
  • @kamryn7914
Just got accepted into the Taiwan ETA program! So excited and this video was so helpful! How hard were the roads to navigate? I'm also a nail technician, would I find decent opportunities to work in a salon or offer salon services?
  • @mdr8062
Not sure how you survived on 2,000NTD a month for food? You would have to eat cheapest of the cheap meals (30NTD). I understand being savvy with money but 30NTD meals every single day would drive me insane.
  • @unwanastidbits
Girl I hope you changed that doggon wifi password 😭
  • @Claire-rg2mn
18,000 TWD/month EACH for one bedroom in a shared apartment is very normal. You had a whole HOUSE for 18k/3??? Holy shit. Did you find that place yourselves???
