Wally the wild walrus surprised everyone when he showed up in Ireland in the summer of 2021. Walruses don't typically travel that far South and because he didn't have access to ice, he settled for the next best thing — boats! His trip around Europe didn't end there and he eventually made his way to Spain! But things really took an even more surprising turn when a second walrus, Freya was also spotted in Europe at the same time.

Disgusting that someone decided to kill Freya instead of finding an alternative sensible solution.

Freya is an unforgivable tragedy. No excuse for what happened to her.

I remember Wally. He tried to get in every boat no matter how big or small. Poor Wally. You can tell he’s young. His tusks aren’t very long. Rest well Freya…

"She did not realize how dangerous we are" I love this linr

I’m so sad for Freya. She spent a lot of time in the town I’m from in the Netherlands and everybody was instructed to keep their distance and just let her be. She sort of became the mascotte of the shipyard/harbour here because she loved to hang out there and just chill.

Poor Freya I’m so sad… what gave them the right?

I remember hearing about what happened to Freya in the news. It's so incredibly sad, heartbreaking, and completely unnecessary. The ocean is their home, not ours. When I heard how horrible people were treating Freya, it disgusted me. They could have tranquilized her and moved her to safety. I think they were just being cheap and lazy. It's 100% humans fault she was killed. I'm glad Wally survived.
  • He's adapting to the human world. So beautiful, I wish we could have this relationship with all animals like that. He had a great adventure.

I started bawling when I heard about Freya… people need to respect the help of people who know the animals habitat and how to get them back safely like Wally 😭
  • @purberri
I was really shocked that they choose to kill Freya instead of helping her.

Thank you for not killing Wally like Norway did with Freya. RIP FREYA I'm sorry that humans let you down.

I love that Wally the walrus picked Ireland to rest up in 2021. Wally is a great success and is where he should be in. Iceland! So sad for Freya that she had to put down because of people.... 😞
  • @jayburn00
I find it funny to be honest how Wally was in some of those boats by himself, it made it look like the boat was his (I guess in a way it was at that point) and he was enjoying an excursion. He even looked like he was the captain in some of those pictures.
  • Poor Freya. She should have been tranquilized and moved back to Iceland. If the can do it to bears they can do it for marine wildlife. Sad that they thought that was the best alternative for her 😪

Freya was not "euthanized". She wasn't sick, she wasn't suffering. Euthanasia is mercy killing of a person or animal who is in great, incurable pain. Freya was simply killed.

I’m so sad to hear about Freya 😢 wished people did more to try and have her move more in the direction of her natural habitat
