Brazil has declared three days of national mourning after a passenger jet crash killed all 61 onboard. The ill-fated aircraft carrying 57 passengers and four crew crashed in Brazil's Sao Paulo state on August 9, the airline said.
The plane, whose last moments were caught on camera, went into a flat spin before crashing into a gated residential community in the city of Vinhedo. Other footage showed a large column of smoke rising from the crash site in what appeared to be a residential area.
The airline Voepass said that its plane, an ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop, was headed for Sao Paulo’s international airport. “The company regrets to inform that all 61 people on board flight 2283 died at the site,” Voepass said in a statement.
At an event in southern Brazil, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva asked the crowd to stand and observe a minute of silence as he shared the news.

I'm Brazilian, and I currently live in Spain. Last year when flying with Iberia company, as far as I remember in a Airbus A330 (IB6824 / GRU-MAD), I experienced two scary moments, both due to moderate but strong turbulence nonetheless. One flying over the Atlantic and the other already arriving in Europe, despite knowing that the turbulence didn't bring down the plane, it was a horrible experience to feel the aircraft lose support and almost everyone screaming constantly, imagine falling SPINNING and seeing the ground approaching with a certain death, my God, may God receive these souls and comfort friends and family.

This was a flat spin. Nearly impossible to get out of.

I've never seen a plane ever fall flat, in a straight line. Is that even possible? I always thought they would glide and then crash as they can't really make a glide landing work.

In my eyes there are four things that caused the Crash. They are:-, 1. Weather Conditions. 2.Human Error. 3.System/Systems Malfunction. 4.Maintenance/Repair History.

Flew in one and it was terrible and nerve wreaking...especially in stormy bad weather conditions.Id rather they scrap these propeller planes.

Once a flat spin develops in an airplane like this one it's over for all on board. Maybe the stall was caused by faulty reaction to sudden power loss. The recorder will tell all.

Just when I thought AF447 falling like a stone in a deep stall was horrific but to see a commercial plane in a flat spin I cannot imagine. The ATR is very sensitive to ice and they must follow procedures that are memorized to the T or the plane will crash.

It's really a big puzzle, an atr42 also suffered a similar incident many years ago

Oh my God, so scary! Not even One survived the Plane crash... .

I wouldn't ride in a Peugot or Fiat car... same designers of this plane.

Did it just run out of fuel and just dropped like a rock? RIP to all those who lost their lives..so sad 😔!

We all know the manufacturer will bare no responsibility but blame the pilot and the airline. Watch this space.

Sounds like the propeller angle settings were in the wrong configuration - you can hear them as the plane fell. Pilot error.

Thanks for the detailed SAD SAD news, our harts go out to those that lost family members, Condolences to all involved 😢
  • There are 3 possibilities that could cause a flat spin. (1) Insects, perhaps caterpillars, were nesting in the pitot tubes. (2) The air brakes were deployed. (3) Ghiaccio.

Dont know the size of the plane, but its seem like too many people were on it. Coukd too much weight do it? 🙏 RIP to all the souls on board. God please give strength to the family and friends.
