A police cordon remains in place around a burnt out vehicle on Friday after a night of violent disorder in a Leeds suburb.

West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin condemned the “violent and thoughtless actions” in Harehills, east Leeds, adding that “such criminal behaviour will not be tolerated”.

Vehicles were set on fire and a police car was overturned as residents were warned to stay at home on Thursday night, with a large police presence and helicopters deployed to the area.

Spiked Online’s Ella Whelan joins Talk’s Ian Collins to discuss this further.

That councillor said he couldn't say if it was good or bad about the riots. Disgusting!

the isolated incident was apparently , a baby was thrown out of a window by another child as they had been left alone while parents at work . how sad and disfunctional .
  • In an earlier video, a man who was filming the bus being destroyed on his phone, asked two of the kids why they were chucking rocks at the bus. They both said that they had had family members arrested by the police, this was kinda revenge for them. These people have no loyalty to the country they live in, to its laws and values, only to their own group. The police are seen as outside interference in their community by another group, rather than enforcing a common law, all are subject to. They are tribal and have a large in-group preference an 'us versus them mentality'! Yet we are constantly forced to not see them as a group when it comes to their crimes, instead we are to just put this down to individuals.

Penalty should be those involved lose benefits and/ or have raised council tax until the costs of the whole incident are paid off, in addition to criminal sentences for terrorism. Anyone here as an ‘asylum’ seeker should be returned to their homeland. We don’t want this behaviour in this country.

I am sorry living in deprived areas is no excuse for this. I grew up in east London, my parents grew up in much more deprived circumstances than me , no one did this. i now live in Ashfield, which is considered deprived this doesnt happen here either.
