  • The wind up sound fx and combined with the fact that the vehicle blows up and not disapearing into thin air. Makes H3 explosions so much better, another thing about just having a different hue for the flames add so much.

    As much as I like this game, it still has that feeling of being unfinished in so many aspects. This is just one example of that.

    I remember being amazed at the scarab blowing up in halo 3, the effects at the time seemed epic and have aged well!

    343 has always been severely lacking in the effects department. Halo 4 and 5 had this problem as well. They refuse to add proper destruction physics and smoke effects. Instead they mask the explosions using not so subtle trickery like you see in the video. Even Halo CE had a more convincing grenade explosion than Halo Infinite.

    I don't know why... but there's something special from Halo 3's blue explosions It looks better
  • The sight of vehicles exploding leaving nothing behind but specks of debris never fails to leave a bitter taste of disappointment to me.

    Yup. One of the first things I noticed in Infinite is the lazy screen whiteout when you blow up a Phantom.

    I think the chain reaction of 3 is much more satisfying, plus the way debris falls. Infinite's fire looks great though. If they bridged the gap, fire of Infinite and destruction of 3, it would be top notch.

    Phantoms blow up in 3 and despawn in infinite, that's next gen right there

    Bungie just did an excellent job in designing Halo 3 with a timeless art direction combined with focusing on delivering the details in terms of polygons and effects. They did this with Reach as well, which why both games, but Halo 3 more than Reach, still look so good. Infinite is massive step in the right direction in terms of the artistic direction, but just lacks in the detailed effects department.
  • LateNightGaming had a great video on Halo explosions. When 343 took over, explosions seemed like an afterthought in their games.

    The explosions aren’t that big of a deal for me, but why can we only have 1 marine in the tank in infinite?

    Worst part of the Phantoms turning I to flashbangs is that you’re blinded in the middle of a firefight. The first time it happened it was kind of a cool effect, but now it’s just annoying especially when there aren’t any other explosion effects
