With the recent State of Play and Summer Game Fest shows wrapping up, we now know what Sony has planned for the remainder of 2024. And indeed, we do have a number of PS5 games that already came out, and are planned to come out this Holiday season. But there's still a lot of questions the PlayStation community has for Sony, especially after such a strong showing from Microsoft with the Xbox Games Showcase. So let's discuss where Sony is at now, and why they haven't made these announcements yet. And then after that I'm gonna go to bed. It's actually kinda late right now.

I think there's an elephant in the room we aren't touching on: game development is taking far too long. I wouldn't campaign for devs to crunch to get games out but there's a level of unsustainability being reached where games are taking as long as a console generation to produce, sometimes longer. That is not something that can keep happening if the industry wants to thrive

I miss 3-4 year game dev. Franchise entries now either happen once a generation or happen at the beginning and end of the gen, where they are potentially limited by the previous hardware because of cross-gen.

I miss the days when you can get all the Uncharted and Resistance trilogies and 2 Killzone games within only one generation. None of these games are 100+ hours long open world thing and they don't need that inflated playtime to justify their price tag. A solid 20 or 30 hour long campaign with replayability like RE4 or Dark Souls is more than enough to keep the players happy. AAA Games these days just take too long to make and also too long to finish, which in my opinion is a waste of time for both the developers and the players.

Xbox showcase felt like a nostalgia of E3
  • @tuttifuknfruity
Jeez, after reading some of these comments I feel like I'm one of the few with an excessive back log of games I need to get to. Not too worried about new games getting or not getting announced when there is plenty of great games to currently play. Be patient ppl

we are all waiting for the game of the generation destruction all stars 2
  • Bro they seriously need to have a major showcase that Xbox showcase was wild
  • In like November 2024, and the games won’t be out until September October and November 2025 so we’re gonna be spending all of 2025 waiting for games in the fall.
  • Xbox showcase gave me E3 vibes for some reason. Geoff shows feel soulless
  • @JamesScholes
Gamers wanted Sony to stop showcasing their games that was years away from release. Sony did that and now gamers are annoyed 🤣
  • @SneedPatch
The PS3/360 gen was packed with so many quality exclusive games and even the PS4/Xbone gen was pretty good. This gen is just completely dry and reliant on ports/re-masters of games from 1-2 gens ago that we've been playing for the past ~15 years. The cost of upgrading to the current gen will never be worth it for many gamers until the gaming industry stops being so creatively bankrupt and makes some quality original titles
  • @curryking1
I prefer showcases to show what is coming now not in 10 years honestly, that ff7 remake thing was yearssss before it actually came out in 2020 and only part of the game
  • @swaeshow
There are plenty of games coming out to play in the near future. The only issues are We have nothing from Sony 1st party (No timeline and no communication)
  • I just want Bloodborne bro 💔 Edit: idk why some are mad in the comments, i just want 60fps is what i should've said 😢 lol
  • @user-gt8yv8nz6f
For me, the showcases are completely unimportant, it is more important to me that PlayStation has regular first party game releases. I don't want shows or stare pf plays, I want regular new game releases
  • @Kivancli79
too much remakes, remasters, re-releases whatnot ...
  • I think the "Future of Gaming" title will return. That 2020 "Showcase" you mentioned Ryan was actually called "PS5 - Future of Gaming". Which really showed us all the PS Studios titles for 2020, 2021 and first half of 2022. This September, I expect a "PS5 Pro - Future of Gaming" that will show 2024, 2025, 2026 and maybe title reveals for Early 2027 games. Ghost 2, Bluepoint's Game, Insomniac's Spin-Off Game, Wolverine are guarantees. I expect Cory Barlog's game as well to be honest. Horizon multiplayer, probably. I would expect Fairgame$ Gameplay as well. Uncharted, we saw Cassie Drake in those advertisements. All other games in that advertisement released except Uncharted so I think it can be a surprise 2025 release. And for Naughty Dog, I saw one of the level designers from Naughty Dog saying they started to work on an unannounced project in 2021. I saw this on LinkedIn. And they are still continuing to work on that project. So I think a 2026 release makes sense for ND's New IP and I think we can see a full on announcement trailer for it in this year's showcase.
  • $300m budget with 5+ development years is getting rough for “one and done.”
  • @boomboominroom
We just want a roadmap. Nowadays with how devs have access to communicate with their fans, we would expect some news. Waiting 5-6 to hear anything feels like we’re kinda are left high and dry.
