A while ago, I made a video about how mobile game ads LIE to us. Well, I think I've found a game that takes that to the EXTREME! Welcome to Evertale. If you've never heard of it, it is a mobile game that is infamous for its completely fabricated ads. These ads tell you NOTHING about the game you are downloading. Infact, they seem to be telling some other kind of dark and twisted story. So of course, I had to find out all of those secrets for myself. Let's go!

The saddest part of this is, if this game had been made with the gameplay and story in the AD's this would have been a fantastic game.
  • The intern who has to do these graphics and texts created a whole story to keep himself entertained
  • Someone should steal this story and make a game from it. It would be a awesome as it would ironic.
  • Okay, now do a theory about Evertale's non-scary "build your own waifu" ads relate back to this lore.

Can't believe that MatPat managed to piece together a coherent enough theory from 3 hours worth of ads. Shout-out to MatPat's efforts (also woo, we got a mention of Omori)!
  • I imagine the company watching this video, thinking “Ah, finally, we have our story. Thanks MatPat”
  • 2:06 Matpat : (calls Omori "tragically ignored") The fandom : are we a joke to you-

Damn, thd Vaporeon pasta had more dangerous implications than we ever imagined

It’s crazy to think if they just made this into an actual game, they’d probably be like the most successful game on the App Store ever
  • If the ads were true to the actual content, I get the feeling Evertale would be one hell of a game
  • @Who_3
This really needs to be a real series. So much money left on the table.

I remember seeing the evertale ads a lot about a year ago and instead of buying the game to see what it was all about I read the reviews and I'm so glad I did because they stopped me from falling for it's false advertising.
  • Someone should make an actual game out of the ads based on the lore of them, and call it "Nevertold", both a riff on "Evertale", and the fact that it would be about a story that was never actually told (I know its a game, it sounds cool).
  • @krtar4199
They advertised the greatest game ever and made the worst game ever. Honestly impressive.

As another one who has never seen an Evertale ad but has actually played the game. It has an interesting story. I think these ads and the offline story are connected because in the final chapter of the game, there are dialogues like this: "Eternal - I am the embodiment of fear. , Hope and fear... Intertwined, they create a boundless universe" etc. However, I do agree that those ads are false advertising.

I never thought i would hear matpat actively speak against downloading a game he’s making a theory on, it’s usually the complete opposite 😅
  • I’m so glad this video was made! I’ve wondered about Evertale for years & within the first few minutes so much is cleared up
  • The real theory I want to know about is why the creative team on the marketing side clearly have a bigger budget than the development team.
