I think each one of us relates songs (either musically or lyrically) in regard to the phase we are going through in each moment of our life. It's amazing how a song can evolve inside you while you grow up. For instance, this song, when I discovered Floyd around the age of 12 , I used to listen to it and think of my problems back then, which were related with my age, teenage, bullying at school, loneliness, a serious health problem of my mother. Later at the age of 18, 19, 20, trying to make it as a musician , I listened to it and thought of this machine I'm trying to get into, a machine that is not welcoming me at all, making me question if I can actually survive thanks to music and still be who I want to be. Nowadays, at the age of 27, having left behind the dreams of being a full time musician, and only playing with the band at local bars for an extra income and of course playing for pleasure , having a full time job, 6 days out of 7, more than 10 hours a day , a job that does nt always pay back since it's my own thing and with the good stuff that comes with not having a boss, comes also the bad stuff, I listen to that song and realize I may have been consumed entirely by the machine, just waiting for it to spit out whats left of me... I wonder what'll be the next thought i'll have listening to this over the next years... Nevertheless , what a great piece for any thought and any time in life :)

EASILY one of Pink Floyd's most underrated songs...

Played this to my son when he was 2 weeks old. He's 46 now and I think he still loves me :)

The contrast between the hyper electronic synth sound and the analog 12 strings guitar is so great here.
  • Listening to any song by Pink Floyd reminds me of when my Dad was working in his work shop, he'd always have one station on that would play a lot of Pink Floyd. I would sing along as I'm doing chores, he would be singing along, too, I miss him so much since he passed away.

It's crazy that this masterpiece is forty-five years old. It's immortal. I was born in '93 and I love this from my teenage years.

“It’s alright, we told you what to dream” Haunting line. 😴 👻

This is a song that deserves to be played at max volume every day of the year.

Possibly one of their best albums ever. Rest In Peace Syd Barret

Welcome to the machine. * Presses elevator button repeatedly. It's broken. Rage against the machine.

So political. Absolutely correct. We are taught to follow without question from a very young age. Welcome to the machine
