What is it like to be a Buddhist monk? What do monks do on a daily basis?

This video gives you a sample of what it's like to be a Buddhist monk at the Papae Meditation Retreat in Chiang Mai Thailand. Our daily schedule consists of going on alms round in the village, doing our chores as a mindfulness practice, meditation, and chanting. The monk's life is small paced and we have time to reflect and contemplate.

I've always said that this life is "simple, but not easy." Taking the time to train one's mind is not easy. So without further adieu, here is the daily life of a monk.

Is anybody else struggling with an earthly life including a job, a mortage, difficult relationships, material goals, and so on, and feels genuinelly worn out, so is now lurking around monk life videos? You are not alone.
  • Can we just take a moment to apreciate how incredible internet is?? The amount of information, perspectives, stories.. is simply wonderful
  • Buddhism saved my life, I was confined to my house due to anxiety from 16 -18 :/ I immersed myself in it and it’s the only thing that I found comfort in 💛 thank you Buddha 😻

I use to be a monk for 8 years included 1 year as an hermit in the jungle in North East Thailand and it's been the happier years of my life ... Thanks for sharing this beautiful video 💕

I plan on exploring monk hood when my kids are older and no longer need my financial support. But for now I mostly practice alone
  • I'm very pleased how calm and peaceful he is. This place is a paradise. No man made luxury can be compared to this

My father always jog around the nearest Chinese temple in our area when I was young and I always go with him. There I first saw a bunch of monks, I was so scared of them thinking they're part of the dragon ball. But now I am truly amazed on their way of living and looking forward to live in that kind of peace.

    Somethings I rediscovered during lockdown.
    1. Busy hands are Happy hands. make things better around you instead just sitting around.
    2. Necessities are way too important than luxuries of life at any given moment.
    3. Giving is always more satisfying than receiving.
    4. Silence is more important than arguments.
    Be happy you all ❤️

It's difficult to live like a monk.
Deep respect and love from the bottom of my heart to all monks for conveying the knowledge given by Buddha.

    This is what was expected.
Grateful that we all have access to the videos like these.....Shows absolutely another life !
  • When you realise the world has no more surprises, you lose interest in it, there's nothing to go back to, that's when your mind turns inwards and start soul searching, or the non existence of soul. And monk hood become deeply conducive to such a journey, some realise this young, others in their middle or old age, and some of us never. The later is too caught up in this life ......looking for pleasures in the five senses, yet never finding it.
  • No 9-5 dead end job. No rush hour traffic. No douchebag boss. No shitty co-workers. No ambulance, cop, firetruck sirens every 5 minutes. No TV news anchor to constantly remind me how messed up the world is. No screaming kids. No grocery store line. No bills. No dick head neighbors.....

Just peace. PEACE. These guys are onto something. Makes me rethink my life.

What i liked about this monk was that he was very humanlike. He had a comforting presence. I have seen similar monk daily life videos are they're almost robotic, very perfect in everything they do - the straightest posture, few facial expressions etc. This monk crouched when writing, folded a blanket with his chin, and let out a sign, all very human characteristics. It was refreshing to see, so thank you.
