Detransitioning: She Regrets Transitioning From Female to Male

The number of young people who identify as transgender has nearly doubled in recent years. Some people say this is because the transgender community is more embraced, but others say teens are rushing to get medical treatments without counseling or knowing the facts. In some extreme cases, this can even lead to what’s called “detransition.” As a teen, Ryan transitioned from a female to a male but says she then realized she made an epic mistake, reversed her decision, and detransitioned to be female again. Over 20 years ago, Kara had medical treatments and later gender reassignment surgery and says policy has greatly changed. She says it's concerning that today, there are far less requirements for children seeking puberty blockers, hormone therapy, and surgery. However, Reece says he knew he was male as a small child, and these medical treatments saved his life as a teen. He says denying teens the right to these procedures is “trans genocide.” Eli Erlick, Founder of Trans Student Educational Resources, adds that the percentage of people who detransition is small and the number one reason for detransitioning is transphobia. Neurologist and author of “The End of Gender” Dr. Debra Soh studies this issue and says social acceptance is good, but the number of transitions have reflected people’s skewed thinking. And, NewsNation Correspondent Rich McHugh weighs in to discuss what he has found after a lengthy investigation on the increased numbers of teen transitions in recent years. (21107)

Valid criticism is not transphobia. If you are ignoring valid points and arguments. That would make you the one with the irrational fear. Fear of confronting criticism.

Even the tattoo artist I spoke with suggested that I try wearing a piece of leather with the tattoo on it first before actually having it done.

People like her need to continue to speak out. It's very, very brave of her. People speaking out like this will save more kids than we can imagine

the last point where she was uncomfortable with people sexualizing her womanly body is sooo true.

I’m the exact same as her. I took hormones at 18 because I identified as FTM. I’m 24 now and detransitioned back to female. People hate detransitioners for no reason and it’s so dystopian. I transitioned because I was a severely depressed and alone teenager and I felt that I didn’t fit in anywhere in life, so I found solice in the online trans community where everyone praised you for being unique and weird. I was chronically online. I strongly believe that if I wasn’t so alone and lived and breathed social media, I would have never blamed my gender for my problems.

Here in Australia it's virtually impossible for a man with low testosterone to get prescribed TRT and yet a girl who identifies as a man can get testosterone no questions asked.
  • I recognized her right away from the thumbnail. I saw her old videos of breaking it all down. Much respect and I'm glad she found herself.

I was so relieved when she said she didn't perform top surgery. That would have been awful.
  • I am 35 years old, and was a Tom boy as a kid. I suspect if I was born 20 years later than I was, I would have thought I was trans based on the media, and I might of done something I would regret.
  • I will never EVER give my child hormones to change their gender. That’s full on abuse. Huge support for this woman for speaking out against this narrative.
  • What's crazy but not mentioned here is that if a man has low testosterone, it is often incredibly difficult for them to get testosterone treatments in comparison to a woman who merely wants it.

I am Happy their showing the other side of changing gender. A lot of ex trans ppl go through this and are shamed by the community. We need more people to speak up about how doctors are allowing ppl to change gender without the proper therapy and time so they won’t regret it in the future.
  • @renayperrell
thanks for sharing this. detransitioners are silenced in the world today. this woman’s voice needs to be heard, because there are many who are too afraid to speak up who may be experiencing or have experienced this

Now THIS is a brave woman. Not the ones that hide behind a keyboard or the ones that just scream louder than people who are trying to talk to you. Those are cowards who are fearful of the truth and confrontation. Life is a rollercoaster ride and sometimes there is no "quick fix" so you have to actually work to get out of those valleys. It helps to have good people around you that aren't just an echo chamber and give you an alterative way of looking at things. Anyways this woman is the real "stunning and brave".
  • Absolutely agree. I'm sorry but someone who wishes to transition SHOULD go to multiple therapy session, etc. It's a big decision and I don't think many people, esp minors, understand that.
  • This person is absolutely the most balanced, intelligent person that I've ever seen...I'm a retired therapist and I used to work with some gender confused individuals...and AGAIN, this is the MOST capable person that I've ever encountered...
  • @RobTheSquire
This is why we need to really talk about such things first before certain steps are taken and are unable to turn back.
