I was born and raised in California. Going to the Oakland Coliseum to a Day on the Green was something we did all the time. I was at this concert on July 2, 1977. I was 17 and will never ever forget it. Best times of my life. At 60 I still enjoy & listen to this music. Thank you for playing this and reacting. I believe I may still have my ticket stub to this concert along with many others.

The "unwritten rule" about Freebird is "If you're gonna listen to Freebird, your neighbors should get to hear it also"...cops called on me more than once...lol

When they opened for Stones they were told not to go out on the big red part... The Stones stage tongue..... but as soon as the boys kicked in with that wicked 3 man guitar solo Ronnie started pushing them out farther & farther out and on the stage... saying we'll show them how to open a show & the rest was history ! The Stones found out like every other band before & after them you do not wanna be the band that has to follow that freight train of sound and one of the greatest front men ever ! 😎🎙 ☺🎸 😉🎸 😆🎸

The "chirps" achieved by using a slide on the high E string, if you're savvy you can even do the universal "cat call whistle" that he does at the beginning.... the simplest guitar tricks are always the best trick...

One of the greatest performances of all time. That "noise" was Gary Rossington make his slide guitar sound like a bird tweet! Sadly, Gary and the drummer Artimus Pyle are the only two members of this lineup that are still with us today.

Imagine how the band felt when they returned to the studio after lunch one day and found their roadie playing this on the piano. He had been a concert pianist since they'd hired him, and no one knew it.

I was in the middle of the 65,000 that showed up that day. Day on the Green was a big event back then. It was held like once a month during the summer when the Oakland A's were on a road trip. Always 5 or 6 bands per show, so saw some really great bands.
