Today I've got one of Gorilla Ammo's GF-10 rifles to do some shooting with. It's an AR-10 platform chambered for 8.6mm Blackout (they also offer it in .243 Win, .260 Rem, 6.5CM, and .308 Win). It weighs in at just 7.2 pounds with a 16" barrel, so it's not an NFA item (they do also offer a 12" pistol pattern). I've got my Q Porq Chop on it as a suppressor, and I'm using subsonic ammo - with this combination it is sort recoiling and completely hearing-safe. The loudest part of the gun is the action clacking closed after each shot...
We also took the opportunity today to put a round of Gorilla's 342gr subsonic expanding ammunition into a block of Clear Ballistics gel - and holy cow. It's a bullet designed to expand while retaining all its mass, and it sure does. The utility of the 1:3" rifling of the 8.6mm cartridge is that it provides a massive amount of rotational energy to allow the bullet to expand reliably even if it's traveling relatively slowly at range. It came out of the gel looking like an honest-to-goodness grappling hook...

Props to the cameraman for checking ejection consistency

Just a tip I've seen from family and other youtubers. If you take a mobile torch with you like the blue can ones at ACE hardware, and you just lightly pass the flame over the faces of a gel block, it will just barely melt the outside. It smoothes it and improves clarity and observability massively. I know its one more thing to bring to the range, but I just think its a neat trick.

That permanent wound channel is incredible.

Takes earplugs out, and then the guy 10 feet to the side with the 4 inch .44 Magnum opens up.. 😂

For anyone wondering what the VSS Vintorez he looked at yesterday might sound like when firing, this is actually similar, though a bit quieter since the suppressor on it isn't as good. People say that 7.62x39 and supersonic .300 blackout are very similar rounds with roughly identical ballistics, and the same can absolutely be said about this round and 9x39 even if the diameter is different, though 8.6 probably has a better BC as a result with a bullet of the same weight

Nice to have a Gorilla for a GF, Ian! She will reliably protect you.
-
Have you ever considered using a new and improved high tech fleece bullet stop?
-
8.6mm is really getting some recognition right now ain't it.

Really underrated stuff for everything non-military use. There are some German swat-like police units which use the new HK437 "sneaker" with .300 Blackout. That's super silent for urban tactical and civilian protection purposes but still enough stopping power and not also hitting someone behind the bad guy^^ With 9" and folding stock it's basically MP5 size...just looks way sleaker, modern and badass. In fact there is even a version with a paddle-release if you're used to the MP5 for years.

10:19 That's the kind of disclosure that should be at the start of the video you know...
-
It costs $60 to fire this weapon...for twelve seconds.
-
The 8.6 Blackout is just a really interesting round. Please make more videos about the 8.6.

Your GF: wants expensive presents, absent minded while on a date, cheating on you Ian's (Gorilla) GF: semi-auto, fully suppressed, 8.6mm

Performance of that bullet was really impressive.

We very much appreciate being able to ear the occasional ricochet. That’s some production quality right there.

When Ian can't find 7.5 French and wants people to switch to another caliber:
-
You'd think if Gorilla was sending you the gun for advertising purposes, they'd also send you a bucket of bullets... I guess they're following the old Gillette strategy?
-
1 in 3'' twist? Now this is the real Vintorez

Love the grin of joy from Ian when he started firing this gun😁😁 I somehow get the feeling he liked it. Loved the explanation then the example of why a fast spinning bullet would be good for hunting.... OW! Conservation of angular momentum or something along those lines maybe. This demonstrates that not only feet per second is important. I imagine this would make a good home defence round 😈😈

That actually sounds like a movie silencer.
