Top 10 Reasons NOT to move to Richmond, Virginia. (Taxes on a boxed lunch)

If you enjoy these videos I would love to hear about it. Most of these videos are made to help people who are thinking about relocating, looking for real estate, or just wanting to learn about the United States. We look at the best and worst cities, states, towns, and neighborhoods in the United States. But, most of the time focus on the negative side of locations. If you only want some happy positive information about a city, town, or state, I would suggest looking up local mortgage and real estate companies or maybe the locations website. They are trying to sell you something so it will be nothing but sunshine, rainbows and a bunch of smoke up your skirt. They won't tell you about crime, poverty, bail bondsmen, or insurance you'll need because of natural disasters. I will. And I will try and make it entertaining.

Most people in Richmond don’t care about NASCAR at all. There are a ton of inaccuracies in this video too. All but one Confederate statues on Monument Ave has been taken down. There’s a court battle on that one. But plenty of people in Richmond don’t like the Confederate statues. Even the Monument Ave Association came out for taking them down. Also, considering tourism in Richmond an issue is pretty laughable. I’ve lived in a lot of cities in my life and Richmond is the least touristy of any where I’ve lived or spent much time. The allergies are the only real issue that’s on your list.
  • Richmond native here. We've got the highest eviction rate in the country, that could explain the homelessness rate

Well Richmond used to be the 5th most dangerous city in the country now you don’t see it on the charts that’s something good

There are 3 famous landmarks in Richmond, VA. They are potholes, roundabouts, and one way streets.

When driving in Richmond last week, I ran over a hole. Not a pothole, an actual crater in the ground.

Virginia also has a wheel tax, vehicles, boats, cargo trailers.... taxed twice a year. When I lived there I paid more in personal property taxes than I did on real estate taxes.

Even after these 10 reasons, Richmond is still better than Roanoke. Source: I live in Roanoke.

Good afternoon Briggs. Thank you for all your fantastic videos..Please have a great day.
  • I don't live in Richmond Virginia anymore I lived there for 35 years of my life I didn't think it was that bad I actually kind of miss Richmond now

I love how all of this footage is stock footage and not actual footage of the city. Richmond is a great city and has tons of positive attributes to it.

One problem with Richmond is that you can go from a good neighborhood to a bad one in a block. I actually find drivers there better than drivers in Charlottesville. I live two hours from Richmond and an hour from Charlottesville. At one point I drove in both daily and in Charlottesville I’ve had to run a red light to keep from getting hit in the back end. Those people don’t know what a red light means. After I suffered vision loss and had to spend time at the center for the blind in Richmond, I found the folks there to be very accommodating and helpful to those in the blind community. Richmond is one of my favorite places.

I moved here from Oregon and it's a culture shock.. Next time mention humidity, it's not something east coast ppl think is a big deal, but for westerners its huge. I explain walking outside to my family : it's like walking out of a hot shower in to a sauna, so be prepared.

I live in Richmond Virginia born and raised. It's not the best place on Earth, but it's certainly not the worst. Bad drivers, homelessness and poverty concerns, potholes, the confederacy, the public schools are subpar, and seasonal allergies, all of these are true. This is home, good or bad, it's home. One thing I love about Richmond is it is central to all kinds of great stuff, the beach, the mountains, and DC, all within a 2 hour drive.

I like a local place on the list! I’m a NY transplant to central VA...and yes, allergies. They almost make up for the pollution allergens of NYC, haha. But a great place, so I can see how you said you would have to stretch this one. As always, great video. Thanks to you and the gentleman that suggested it. Love this channel!
