So on the note of the lore and the escort mission. Cool idea but it wouldn't work out. The whole point is that light needs to be given by choice. The Traveler is that which chooses. It gave you the vision, it gave you the light. It refused it for Ghaul and any others. In canon that's kind of why we're the only ones who can reclaim it from the shard. Seems pretty clear that for story purposes, you're the only guardian who's meant to have reclaimed the light. The story isn't meant to be done with a fireteam in the canon I guess...

watching this and then reflecting on where we are at with witch queen is wild. its essentially a different game now and that's a good thing. in a few years this might appear and i look forward to seeing what Bungie has in store with the final shape

"WELCOME TO A WORLD WITHOUT LIGHT" A week later we already got ours back
-
I ran it solo. I died a few times, but not a lot. It felt tuned for solo, yeah.

One thing I like about the story is that if you played Destiny 1, some dialogue changes: Example: *When first encountering Shaxx at the Homecoming mission: New to Destiny: "Over here, (class insert here)." Veteran: "Ah, Saladin's Young Wolf!" *When first encountering the Taken at Io: New to Destiny: "What's these blights?" Veterans: "Oryx is dead long time ago, why are the Taken still here!?" *When first mentioning the Warmind at Io: New to Destiny: "What's a Warmind?" Veterans: "Will we meet Rasputin?"

Excellent reflections Datto. Thanks for sharing.

Fireteam? No way fam, solo'ed the whole story

By the time I had reached Ghaul, I managed to get a Celestial Nighthawk. I was able to take away half of his health in one Super use.
-
I thought the big version of Ghaul would be the raid boss
-
Coming back here to remember just how little there was before forsaken.
-
"I'm sure infusion won't be a problem in the future" lol oh wishful thinking.
-
watching this in 2022 is so interesting, especially knowing more about Ghaul and his character and knowing what the Pyramid ships finally mean. I remember thinking it was the 5th race (I still think it is) and getting so engrossed in the lore. Then I stopped playing after Forsaken dropped cuz I was broke :/ And then picked it back up after Shadowkeep :)
-
They built a brand new Tower and NOBODY mentioned to increase the vault space past a crappy 200 that was already available on a FARM?!? Who built this thing?
-
Idk why this came up in my suggested videos but man, armor used to look ugly in Vanilla campaign. Atleast Forsaken has good dreaming city armor(not counting last wish armor cause Leviathan armor still looks cool). Lets hope shadowkeep armor is as good.

6:12 4 and a half years later and this still gives me chills

Great review! Cant wait to play this!

On the comment about bringing the Vanguard to the shard, the light in the shard called to our Guardian in particular. That's the reason we were able to receive it. That's what the trippy cutscene after we fell was about; it was the shard basically summoning us. This confused me as well until ghost started talking about it.
-
coming back to this is crazy that ending cutscene is just the best foreshadowing in the entire game.

I can't speak for everyone, but allowing your small fireteam to demolish Ghaul was perfect. I think it perfectly showed that Ghaul isn't his army. His army is huge and they destroy suns, but Ghaul is Ghaul. He was within grasp of everything he worked his entire life for and let his guard down. Him letting his guard down, in combination with the guardians realizing the stakes, allowed for his legion to crumble. I did feel like the second half was a bit rushed, but I feel like the character taking down Ghaul was superbly done.

UPDATE: cayde is no longer goofy
