The best thing I’ve ever seen on stage

This reminds me of when Jordan Peele was reading fan theories about 'Get Out' and he read the one about the white family were all arriving in black SUVs being a metaphor/foreshadowing about how they were stealing black bodies. And he was impressed because he hadn't thought of that angle when he did that scene but it actually fit
  • This is the funniest thing ever and it happens so often in theatre. I was doing a comedy spoof of Hamlet once and there's this big swordfight and in the midst of it, at the boiling point, my prop sword just fucking breaks. There's a silence, there's a stare, and I just start running away and the crowd fucking loses it. Pure accident. 😂

One of the best pieces of advice my dad ever gave me was "follow your mistakes." Sometimes the better choice is revealed by accident, and when it is, go with it.

casually writes this idea down for one day when I may finally direct my own show
  • @iurichiba
oh my god! It finally hit me! The nerdy enthusiasm, the way you're talking in the end... all of your videos I've seen... You're a younger Hank Green! It's the same effing energy! I kinda need you two to meet irl, now
  • @Kaegri
I'm adoring how enthusiastically positive your energy is, and that stage medium giving the puddle-of-blood metaphor even more depth is! so! satsifyingggg Story mediums linking heavily to the way we perceive it is so powerful when harnessed with intent - or, you know. by accident. but it DOESN'T CHANGE that it's awesome 😂
  • This is a great example of the phenomena that every thing you put on stage needs to be important because every thing you put on stage becomes important wether you want to or not. When you put something on stage you are essentially screaming at the top of your lungs “look every one look at this thing” and the thing better be worthy of that attention.

Reminds me of being in an Oliver Twist play (where pivotal murder scene with a walking stick). The actor broke the head off the walking stick from striking the floor, and it flew off stage. Really sold the moment.

The most significant things in our life always happen by accident 😂
  • @JoraAustin
lol how did i know it was an accident as soon as you described it? oh yeah, years of acting and stage management 😂 Do you know how hard it is to get fake blood out of costumes every night???
  • @kimmycup2704
DAMN, THAT'S SO CLEVER. Hope they kept doing that xD

this reminds me of a scene from a highschool play of foot loose and in the opening choreography while dancing someone’s shoe went off of their foot and flying across the stage

oh god I know that feel! so on a period production a roman guard leads a prisoner away to be put to death. The cue was exit left through a doorway+door set right by the curtains to the wings, the prisoner first, then the guard. Guard closes the door behind him hard, sound times a loud BAM with the door slam to signify the end of the person's life. The lights then fade out. this ends act 1, we go straight to intermission. It's a PG show so we never specify how the prisoner dies, it was just implied. on one run this gets messed up. the guard closed the door, the lights fade out, 2 beats later and then suddenly BAM! for that run everyone thought the prisoner was beheaded. no one moved until house lights came on a bit later. it was SO GOOD they changed the cue for the res of the runs. I miss theatre man

I write music and record demos of it in a DAW and recently it happened to me that I pulled an already recorded piece of track out of the way to re-record it and forgot about it. later I played back the part of the song that comes afterwards where I pulled the piece of track to and it sounded great! That was a happy accident. Also, once I screwed up the timing of a bend in a single note ornament in another song of mine and the bend displacement sounded amazing, served the music much better than when it was in the original place in a bar.

This kind of thing happens a lot, people find hidden meaning in movies like The Wizard of Oz that the creators literally didn't intend. A famous one is Neon Genesis Evangelion people made all these crazy assumptions about the meaning behind the things that happened in the show and the creator was just like no, there was no meaning, I just thought it looked cool, or even having to do things a certain way because of budget restrictions.
  • You are such a fun personality. I hope to see all of your content. This is gonna be a great ride haha
  • @revenoon5375
How many other people would have paid attention enough to see that, and too this day, think it was intentional?
  • @qwertyTRiG
Live theatre really can do things that no other medium can.
  • @C_Tizzle
You are just so damn interesting.
