DIY DARK ACADEMIA : STUNNING filing cabinet makeover

2023-12-17に共有
I'm taking a scratched up, beat up, completely ordinary in every way filing cabinet and turning into a one of a kind dark academia inspired BEAUTY.

I used my xTool P2 laser to cut custom veneer patches for the front of this, but you can also just do them by hand. New apothecary / library style pulls and a gorgeous dark paint colour, Odie's Oil, and black wax make this piece just magical.

Your need for transparency in explaining the lack of showing the beginning of the process for this piece is testament to your deep-seated honest nature and your desire to set clear expectations. It's not just the stellar quality of talent and skill that you bring to the pieces you save; it's the quality of your character. You're truly a good person, and that shows very clearly in every video. Plus, the furniture is always gorgeous.

I’ve said it before and I will say it again…you are my favorite furniture restorer on YT!! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
  • My wife and I have been watching a Transcend Furniture Gallery marathon today, and with each show you never disappoint on bringing new life to tired and old pieces of furniture with just the right color to natural beauty of the project your working on. Watching you do your magic is so satisfying and inspiring. Keep up the great content and work.
  • Love, love, love the cabinet maker over. You captured the dark academia in a very classy way. You saving the amazon gift receipts shows how much you appreciate the gifts and how you do not take them for granted. As everyone has said, you are a kind soul.
  • Wonderful makeover amidst the chaos. Even more impressive for me is how you saved all of those gift receipts and found a way to turn them into a keepsake. Many YouTubers say they are grateful for their viewers. However, your actions speak volumes to this. My best wishes for continued success ... and the return of that little card.

In your introduction, you say that you refinish furniture. What you really do is breathe new life into every piece you work on. You're deliberative, thoughtful and incredibly skilled. You're also humble and the fact that you foster bunnies and so obviously love your kitties tells me you're an amazing human as well. Happy Holidays to you and your lovely family!

As someone brought up by a mom who was a student, I was often settled in the stacks of the university library as my babysitter, with a stack of books on the floor, and card catalogs watching over me and keeping me company. I later worked and retired from the library system, so this piece felt like home to me. I love the colors, wood and wood grain, and the hardware choices. If I had a home, this is a piece, along with many others you've done, like what I'd want in my home. Angie, your fans are unique in that I think many of us are fans of you, your integrity, humor, honesty and style, as well as your incredible skills and aesthetics. So, you won't lose us over the small stuff(like a missing card). I would bet most of us watch for more than one thing, one reason. And many of us look forward to the next video, whenever that is.
  • @bluecurlygirl
It's gorgeous Angie. And I absolutely love the little folder for all the gift cards. Such a cool way to store them and so cool that you keep them. Love the quote. I've been saying that for years but not in those words. You never know the difference a simple smile when passing can make to someone's day. Maybe they won't go home and have an argument. You just don't know so always send kindness out when you can. It's a great rule to live by.
  • It is a testament to how much you care about your work that the loss of 15 minutes of video had you looking like you'd lost your best friend. I didn't miss those 15 minutes at all. You more than made up for them with the wonderful Amazon gift-receipt book and the adorable bunny ornaments. The cabinet looks beautiful, as always.
  • The proverb you showed at the beginning is so apt for this time. I have never in my 65 years, lived through a period of time where so many people are mean. A kind gesture or a smile is such a small thing but it can completely alter a persons day for the better. We need to be kinder to each other. The cabinet turned out beautifully by the way I would love something like this in my home in England.
  • @frelnc
Very nice, Angie. As for misplacing the first part of this episode - stuff happens. You are always beautifully honest about your work and one tiny slip isn't going to make any of your loving fans think less of you.
  • @RattiDave
Angie - As someone having NO creative artistic talent whatsoever, I cannot be anything but blown away by your projects. I never would have thought of the laser-cut veneer inlays, and the dark-wax finish was incredible. Then you insert the grazing deer footage, and take 5his video to the next level. I love your channel, I love your work, both with restorations and with bunnies. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.
  • Girl, you never disappoint! That glow effect in the middle of the drawers, paired against the way you finished that hardware, is everything! So dark academia and so ,so,so, gorgeous! Beautiful work as always friend 🤩👏
  • I am sure you are disappointed to have lost footage, but it's all good. Whilst your content is always interesting, I keep coming back for you. My favourite part of your videos is your calm voice and mellow music choices.
  • Thank you for posting this project even though you see it as “imperfect”. Your content (including your lovely self!) is always a highlight for me and I appreciate you!
  • Gorgeous and so creative! That cabinet looks like it’s seen the dust of ages, all dark and moody. I’m sorry about the SD card. Stuff like that is extremely frustrating! I know I’m not the only one who thinks this but - I love this community. I will watch anything you want to show us. I really enjoyed watching the lazer cut out pieces of veneer, so precise. I love seeing the ornaments and the coasters and the way you have saved all the Amazon cards. I hope your coming week is better. I know the SD card will turn up, probably tonight. That will be ridiculous and funny and you should just laugh because the universe is like that sometimes. Thank you for the way you share yourself with us. I appreciate you very much.🌸
  • @Pinkstinkie
Angie has turned her original, beautiful artistic designer's eye on Dark Academia. Merry Christmas to me!
  • @jenc5898
Angie, please don't stress the lost SD card. I always tell myself that everything happens for a reason. In this case, the end is always the best part, anyway. Thank you for sharing it with us even though things didn't go the way you wanted. 😊 I truly enjoyed this video... love how the piece turned out, and really liked your laser printer projects!
  • @lizhoward9754
Cabinet looks great but what I loved most about this episode was what you have been doing with the laser! What a clever idea creating a “fan deck” of Amazing receipts from all us fans! And designing the bunny coasters and ornaments for fund raisers makes the whole thing more than worth it!
  • Your genuine love respect and passion for what you do is the equivalent of eating a gourmet meal. So many people flipping just for some quick cash is the fast food equivalent.
