The movie takes place in 1942 during the Battle of Stalingrad, where the Soviet Union is fighting against Nazi Germany. A young Russian soldier named Vassili Zaitsev (played by Jude Law) becomes a hero for his incredible skills as a sniper. His reputation soon spreads through the ranks of both the Soviet and German armies.

The Germans, aware of Zaitsev's abilities, send their top sniper, Major Erwin König (played by Ed Harris), to kill him. The two snipers engage in a deadly game of cat-and-mouse as they try to outsmart and outshoot each other in the ruins of Stalingrad.

Meanwhile, Vassili becomes romantically involved with a young Russian woman named Tania Chernova (played by Rachel Weisz), who is also a sniper. The two struggle to maintain their relationship amidst the chaos of war.

As the battle intensifies and the Russian forces suffer heavy losses, Vassili is thrust into a leadership role and becomes a symbol of hope for his fellow soldiers. With the help of his comrades and Tania, Vassili must face off against König and outwit the German forces in order to win the battle for Stalingrad.

  • One of my favorite war movies ever. Jude Law and Ed Harris give great performances.
  • @afaris88
I watched it more than ten years ago and still vaguely remember it, but only now I realize how great the movie is.
  • @Dr_Larken
0:24 you forgot the part where is eating snow to hide his breath that's crucial!
  • @ImThePr3s
That scene where Ron Pearlman jumping first but also got sniped first before Jude Law was the most memorable one for me since that shows how good the aim and reflex of Ed Harris
  • Ron Perlman being described as having a 200 IQ had me rolling on the floor. LMAO
  • Lyudmila in this movie was likely based on actual Soviet sniper Lyudmila Pavlichenko. She didn't die in the war and is actually credited with killing 84 more Germans than Vassili.

OMG i can't emphasise how long I've been looking for this movie(I watched it as a kid) not remembering it's name and only remember the scene 1:34 where he got the bullets and not the sniper as a reference , truly I'm grateful

Your Vid was very enjoyable, good voice, description/recap and the music track, very nice. The recap was MPOSTLY accurate, your description of 'Vass' first 'kills' is in error. [2:48] Those were not snipers, they were officers. Great production, nicely done, both the film and your Vid, Thank you.

Idk why but the way says “They get ready for dinner.” Is just hilarious. 5:59

the nostalgia after playing the game as a kid, I can finally see the fight from a different perspective. you play as Alexi, but in this movie it's Vassili. makes me wonder if the characters in call of duty are fictional.

1:50 - Keep in mind, Enemy At The Gates was shown in the Russian Federation theaters as well, where the veterans of the war walked out in disgust over the inaccuracies, namely, the portrayal of Red Army soldiers shooting their own soldiers for retreating. While this movie entertained the English speaking world, those former soldiers who lived it inside of Russia had nothing good to say about the movie.
  • Lets hope that all future wars, will be only in cinema, and not in real life.

The scene when the train stops across the river from Stallingrad , the door slides open and the first looks of shock when seeing the city is memorable.
  • @Swede9418
Very nice summary of the film - thank you.
  • The rifle little Vassili has is quite odd. It looks like it was cut for a P/U scope, but that was covered by a little bit of wood, and someone has checkered the stock. It is also interesting that the rifle has a octagonal receiver, a feature on early Mosin Nagant rifles.
  • Life always has many things to bring you down. But, what can really bring you down is your attitude😊
