Hey Jimbo, great video. I know it was tough to see a big difference on video, but I still found the comparison really interesting. Would you consider doing a video comparing a conventional clay bar to a clay mitt? I'd be fascinated to see how they really stack up against each other. Thanks for keeping it real.

Thank you, great vid. I have used SGCB (10$), Sonax (18$), ClayMagic (31$) and Clay form Aliexpress (6$), and didn't find any critical differences. Prices are converted from rubles.

It was hard to see through the front view. But I value your opinions thanks for these videos!

Jimbo, I've played with car cleaning on a personal level since i can remember. Your videos are fantastic. This one goes to CHEAP. BTW, I was given a clay mitt to try a few years back...never even looked at a clay bar again. Massive coverage area, fast, and works! Have you ever compared clay mitts?

I see upload from Jimbo, I likey😃. On a genuine note, it’s always good to see head to head comparisons. The cheap version has the functionality aspect to it, it does what you intend it to do, especially if someone is not looking for perfection/or budget wise. I wonder if you can get the Bilt Hamber products red red in the U.S? Because here in the U.K. it is fairly cheap against the big brands, the functionality especially the clay bar, car shampoo and wheel cleaner has saved me £££ in purchasing products. Great upload as always.

Great demo. I might make a move to a clay towel next but as far as the video goes I think the cheap one won.

like the quality and upgraded video!!!
  • We'd need to see the marring left behind also. Clay a shiny new black car with each and see how quickly you'd pay the extra for good clay instead of doing at least a one-step polish afterwards.

I use a lot of the Clay Magic, have for many years.

Great video! I dig the set.. I’ve had +20years experience detailing with clay magic in which the first 7yrs of it that I was introduced to it, being in a paint and body shop context and yes I’ve tried cheaper bars too. I can tell you there is a difference in actual grade of the clays and longevity regardless of sharing the blue color. Cheaper clays tend to not be as fine of a grade and are not manufactured with the same polymer compounds as CM so they will break down and eventually fall apart much faster, that’s why clay magic blue is much more dense and doesn’t seem to remove quite as much in side by side timed comparisons. You’d need more work time with the CM blue so I don’t believe it’s a true apples to apples. Either way the real full job is to clay, then light machine compound, machine polish and finally ceramic seal or graphite/ceramic seal the finish for best and most extreme showroom shine results. I know the subject matter isn’t the full process, just sayin
  • I would say the drive side looks less purple. I stopped the video and zoomed in looks like the cheap in this case might be worth it. Great video Jimbo.
  • Great video!! IMO might be the same, but will it last for those who do this everyday? Because it's new will the cheaper brand do just as good as the clay magic the first few times only.
  • What about the marring left behind from the clay? Any differences?

What's far more important to me is if the cheap clay marred the paint more. Lastly, clay magic (which is the original patented clay) and the branded clays (Megs, Mothers, Griots. CG, etc) are consistent and predictable month after month, year after year. The cheap clays are a crapshoot. I purchased some and they were all different. Some soft as puppy poop and some hard as a brick. Given the risk of being forced to polish a whole car is it worth the few dollars. So far, not for me. I use it only on hammered lower rocker panels here in New England.
