From Wimbledon Champion to... Jail Time?

Boris Becker wasn’t just any player, but a worldwide sporting icon, having bursted onto the international tennis scene as the youngest ever male player to win Wimbledon. As one of the richest athletes in the world at the height of his success, how exactly did Boris Becker squander his vast $170 million fortune so badly that he now sits in jail because of it? As you can imagine, the problems began way earlier than most realize.

Hard to believe someone who must have been incredibly disciplined in sport to achieve what he did, could have been so undisciplined in other areas of his life.

"The most expensive five seconds of my life." Lmaooooo
  • Not seeing Becker in the Centenary Celebration yesterday at Centre Court of Wimbledon was really surprising & disappointing at first, until it dawned on me where he is actually right now.

This is one of the best documentaries I have ever seen! I've always wondered how on earth was Boris able to waste that much money...
  • @LordStanley94
I have to hand it to you: the way you transitioned to the shaving ad was pure perfection.

That’s why discipline is really important in life. People get careless and whatever they’ve earned comes to bite them in the backside.
  • Who says his reputation is forever ruined? Hey...he got in money trouble, partly by being over-generous. Why hold that against him....he has to go to jail. He'll pay a hard price. Why should we hold it against him? I'd love to see him back as a commentator. He always did a great job. Hope he has a productive two years.
  • VERY, Very sad to see such a talented tennis player end up like that!! Such heartbreaking hope he recovers from terrible nightmare!!😭

I will always love Boris Becker; every time I hear his name or see his face I visualize the great moments he gave us on the tennis courts. Stay strong Boris, you'll never be forgotten.
  • I remember while Boris Becker was still playing NBC would produce videos about what a financial failure Bjorn Borg was after he retired and even worse when he attempted to make comeback. I hear he's doing pretty good now, so maybe there's still hope for Boris to get back on his feet
  • When Becker was sentenced to 2 1/2 years in jail, he asked the Judge, "How many months is that?" She replied, "That's 30 love!"

17 he was when he held the Wimbledon title, today if you get past the first round and your British BBC wants you to have a knighthood.
  • @VCRider
It would be fair to mention that aside wining „only 3“ Wimbledon’s (and other slams), he would consistently reach the finals (7 in Wimbledon) and semifinals throughout his career. He was a major force always to be reckoned with during more than a decade

had the pleasure of meeting him at wimbledon in 2014. a lovely guy, it’s a shame how he went down hill with this whole mess
  • @BNatoAk
He was the first person I remember winning Wimbledon as a kid. He'll always be a true champion in my eyes!
  • @paradise8876
I like Boris and I've no doubt he will come back stronger than ever.
  • @robroy8485
Can take all his money away but can’t ever take away the fact that he will always be remembered as a true tennis legend .
  • @melal41
Boris was my first true tennis idol after I watched 1985 Wimbledon. He was a reason I picked up a racket at age 32 for the first time and still play tennis regularly. Good luck to him.
