Tyler Karow, Imanol Amundarain, and Cedar Christensen pulled off a team free ascent of the South African Route on the East face of the Central Tower of Paine in Patagonia, Chile in January 2023. Despite their typical vigilance for going light, they opted to splurge on quite a few luxuries including excess amounts of wine and a mini cast iron oven that they used to bake muffins, empanadas, and pizzas daily while living in portaledges. They spent a total of ten days on the wall after an initial two days of fixing ropes from the ground.

This 4000 foot line was first climbed in 1974 by a South African team and first freed by Sean Villnueva O'Driscoll, Nico Favrese, and Ben Ditto in 2009 at a grade of 5.12c. This was the second free ascent of the route.

  • Going climbing always take a dude who knows arts and crafts and cooking. Absolute legendary team xD

It always amazes me with the amount of equipment some climbers bring with them, especially on a multiple day climb. Making pizza, cakes, quiche, cupcakes, and whatever else is top notch.

Thank you algorithm for showing me this. Huge respect. I can never figure out how they can keep track of all the ropes they are using, plus they are 3 person in a tent, hanging on the mountain as if it was a family camping trip to the lake, eating muffins and cheese. Every now and then I love to go into the woods and hiking, but I'm afraid of heights but can imagine the adrenaline and reward climbing those small gaps must be something out of this world. Awesome footage!

Hauling 20 liters of water plus gear up a mountain. That's some serious strength and stamina. Formidable!
  • Hands down this has to be one of the most insane climbing videos out there on the internet. kudos to team!

Now that's proper climbing! my heart was in my mouth throughout this video. You guys must be extremely fit and strong and highly intelligent to understand how to sort out all those ropes! What a fantastic film! Thank you

Makes me feel like backpacking in the mountains on the regular trail is a chill time.

At last a climbing film without music and crappy film editing. The raw footage films are much better as they let the adventures do the talking. Thanks for posting.

I will never understand the people that feel the need to do this. But it's super impressive. Spending days climbing. Hauling not just yourself, but a bunch of supplies up. Building camps hanging off the sides of cliffs. Cooking, drinking wine and sleeping in the camps. Amazing. I'm surprised the climbing gear is that strong and even if you fall, you're okay.

I wish to go to Patagonia, the videos are beautiful but like just for the hike 🥾 and maybe smoke some 🌿. That’s as high as I’ll go, y’all are brave.

This is INSANE. I never knew that people pitched tents on literal cracks above vertical drops. My hands and feet are sweating like crazy watching this.
  • @rigolmgs
Torres del Paine is one of the most beautiful spots in Chile, just getting to the lake is amazing.
  • Sleeping on the side of the cliff like that is wild. Imagine dreaming you are falling out. 😂 Jesus
