Let's talk about sulforaphane. There are a lot of interesting health benefits of sulforaphane.

Sulforaphane is a phytonutrient that has been studied extensively. You can get sulforaphane from many different plants, but the best source of sulforaphane is broccoli sprouts or broccoli microgreens.

Broccoli sprouts or broccoli microgreens have 10 to 100 times more sulforaphane than broccoli. The majority of nutrients in plants, especially phytonutrients, are in the early stages of growth. Sprouts and microgreens also have much fewer anti-nutrients, which can irritate the gut.

Sprouts and microgreens are incredibly nutritious and are great choices if you have a hard time consuming large amounts of vegetables. You can consume fewer of them to get a good amount of nutrients and phytonutrients.

Potential benefits of microgreens and sprouts (sulforaphane):
1. May help prevent chronic disease
2. Has potent anti-inflammatory effects
3. May have anticancer effects
4. May help inhibit carcinogens
5. Has potent antimicrobial effects
6. Has powerful blood sugar effects
7. May be beneficial in preventing heart disease
8. Has been studied for autism
9. Has anti-aging effects
10. Helps support the brain

  • So proud to be a micro greens farmer. I ALWAYS tell people about the sulphurophane in broccoli .... And I ONLY use soil. Thank you for this Dr Berg. I'll be sharing this A LOT
  • if big pharma is studying them doc, then you can almost be assured they are studying it in order to find a way to PREVENT it from fighting cancer
  • my grandma made me eat clover or alfalfa for a sandwich when I was a small kid like 5 yrs old. She also told me this stuff will prevent not getting future cancer. She also said to put sprouts on top of the natto bean. When I grew up, still eats sprouts, mostly clover for salad or low-carb sandwiches. I've been eating those for years and no wonder why I'm still ageless!! Every morning I steam broccoli side with scrambled eggs, this stuff keeps me boosted and energized. Thank you!
  • Dr. Berg, you're the only doctor talking about this nutrient, that helps us fight cancer. Thank God we have you, helping the world. ✝️
  • I always have a mix of Broccoli, Radishe and Alfalfa sprouts growing in my kitchen a 7 day cycle so easy. My wife and I love the mix of flavors.
  • I mix these sprouts in my dog's food. 50 percent of dogs over the age of 10 , will develop some form of cancer. For his joint support I feed green lipped mussel oil ,and krill oil I also add some pure pumpkin puree, and steamed pureed green beans Sorry for going off topic , but my dog is 12 yrs old and still run with younger dogs
  • You only bring the best medical research for your viewers , one reason why we watch & listen & learn . Appreciate
  • I've been eating these for 40 years and so easy to grow, you don't need to watch a 30 minute video on how to grow them, just put a tablespoon of Broccoli Sprout seeds into a jar allowing the air to get in using a piece of stocking or similar or a sprouting jar (they don't have to be in the dark just don't place in direct sunlight), rinse twice daily and around day 4 - 6 or so EAT. (can also be frozen).

You can grow broccoli sprouts in a mason jar and freezing them at about the 5-day mark helps retain the most Sulforaphane. Thanks for putting it back into my universe. I had studied this years ago.
  • @soulelle
Dr. Rhonda Patrick was interviewed on Andrew Huberman's podcast, and they briefly discussed sulforaphane. At one point she was talking about broccoli sprouts and broccoli, and she mentioned that if you cook broccoli, you somewhat lower the sulforaphane levels. However, if you put 1 gram of mustard seed powder on your cooked broccoli, it increases the sulforaphane by four-fold. Neat!!
  • So basically, sprouts and microgreens are cheaper and faster to produce, have more nutrients and phytonutrients and fewer antinutrients and cause less inflammation. Consequently, you don't need to eat as many of them as you would need from full-grown vegetables. Unless there is some crazy catch hidden there, I can't see any reason to make some major changes to my salad ingredients from now on. Thanks Dr. Berg!
  • So glad you mentioned soil versus hydroponics. I’m a firm believer in the soil. Nice to hear the same from you.
  • I work at a farm that grows Broccoli microgreens in the southern Vermont area, producing tons of this all the time! this is a great video spreading word of some of the amazing benefits of these foods!
  • Love when 6 am rolls around , it's time for a new video 😊 hope everyone has a great Friday ✌️ I put broccoli sprouts in my smoothies a few times per week .
