I love how this anime is extremely accurate with its animation when the musicians are playing. The sound of the drumming and Sentarou's motions were spot on.

This is, and will always be, a flagship for music anime for years to come

If you get Shinichiro Watanabe directing and Yoko Kanno composing you cannot go wrong!

I just hated that they were separated 8yrs that's just too much. Not having contact with each other or anything like damn... I would of died of depression or since shit

True friendship being showcase, one that goes beyond time or words, and just flows through the rhythm of jazz.

久しぶりの再会で、言葉を交わす必要もないかのようにセッションするこのシーンはほんと感動した

Someone give me a tissue, I'm crying so much now. Aah... tears of happines, I'm so moved TTvTT  What a beautiful friendship! Even after 8 years they are playing like it was yesterday. A friend like that is my one true wish.

being a jazz studies student and a person who likes anime, this DEFINITELY filled me with joy

Not gonna lie. I hadn't see any animes since 2009 until I watched this one. And that final litteraly made me shed some tears of joy and smiling like an idiot. Shinichiro Watanabe really is one of the best anime director of those last years. And combined with the great and amazing Yoko Kanno this is always a good pairing. <3

These are the best kinds of friendships, the ones that, in spite of being separated for years at a time, can be picked right back up as if no time at all has passed.

This is my favorite scene of the anime, Kaoru and Sentaro: best friendship ever!

Compare to the great anime outside, Sakamichi no Apollon is not on the great list. Because of the topic Jazz, it destined to work only on minority crowd.  As an apprentice of jazz, I got to tell you how much guts they have to make an anime like this, because it will not work charm like K-ON. It's realistic plot, trying to tell you what real musician is, without charming face or fancy cloth, no tea time during practice, no fixed band member in the real band idea, old man in band, band can be happen with only duo (piano and drum), the exist of trio, quartet, discrimination on black music.  The most important: they don't use "fly me to the moon" again again and again. At worst it is "Satin Doll" or "My Favorite Thing". I never expect to have an anime that use pure jazz as main plot.  PS: I enjoy how they potrait those epic album in the record store from time to time. John Coltrane, Bill Evans, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Chris Connor...
