Super-Heavy Tanks of 20th Century

Published 2024-04-10
In the first half of the 20th century, there wasn’t a single dominant tank layout that everybody used, like it happens nowadays with modern MBTs. It was a Wild West of experimentation and trial and error, with engineers coming up with all sorts of interesting and sometimes seemingly impractical ideas to adapt armored vehicles to different battlefield conditions. One of those ideas was to create a “landship”, a super-heavy combat vehicle capable of breaking through heavily fortified areas like the Maginot Line or the Siegfried Line.

Me when my advancing super heavy tank maus (1945) has to fight Vidar (2019) with thermal and laser rangefinder 3km away:

To clarify; The IS-7 was not produced in significant numbers due to it being simply too costly. Weight was not a problem with this tank as it was originally designed with it in mind- Reinforced tracks, suspension and one of the most powerful diesel engines ever fitted in an armoured vehicle. Why discard such an amazing war machine? Well the soviets found out you could produce something around 2-5 T-54 medium tanks for one such behemoth.

"What do you think of super heavy tanks" I think you should make a re run of past events so that 99% of the community can actually obtain them.
  • @Micha-wb9oz
Why didn't you metnion that the Maus turret was too heavy for the E-100?
  • Wait, did I understand correctly that they didn't build the Tog II? Because they did, it actually survived and is in the Tank Museum
  • Although the Maus' removal from the standard tree will forever be missed, you guys still do a remarkable job modeling these heavyweights and more in the game. Keep up the good work!
  • @SilentVoid_
I would love to play the E-100. If we had the option to even obtain in the first place
  • @TheMetalheadQC
Would be cool to have an event where we could grind one of the Japenese super heavies like the Maus
  • @saga_hee
don't forget about the outstanding T-10M, which was seen in the Yom Kippur war which some prob knocked out some M48s its a great and perfectly balanced Heavy tank similar to the IS-4M and IS-7 and another fun fact is that during the soviet era of stalin it was originally named IS-8 but due to politics its official name is the T-10M

Fascinating stuff. Love these historical videos. More, Gaijin! MOAR!!!
  • Well i love the is-7. Just a shame that abount noone can play in war thunder as its price is ridiculous and it has never seen reintroduction in any kind of event. same for e100. just a shame.

why is the O-I Japanese super heavy tank not in the game? since 1 piece of it has been completed, and even if it was not completely completed, it could still be submitted, since the E-100 was not completely completed either
  • @haircake6102
Would love to see the Lowë and the O-I in the game at some point. I’m sure the Lowë would cause some uproar but there’s a decent argument to made for the O-I to be in the game

6:53 "Nevertheless, most of the super heavy tanks that actually made it into production are now available in WT". Guess we were lied to cause they say in the video that the E100 made it to the production and they are available in the game. Even though the only thing that's ever been put out for pictures was a E100 hull that wasn't even close to being done. Thought it said However it never went into production and it was a single chassis partial prototype that was made at the end of the war but maybe they threw one past us:face-blue-smiling:

make the t110 tank in the game and also the O I heavy tank for Japanese tech tree
  • @Nobody0152
I wish that tanks such as the IS-7 and the E-100 could be available to all the players once a year for about a week, of course only if the player has the required vehicle rank already unlocked.
