The part about new games not being compatible with the first switch, is probably because there's a rumor going around that they will keep supporting the first one as a cheaper , budget friendly entry and the switch 2 would be like the powered up mid Gen refresh or something like that

I think the magnet are use to auto-align the Joycons, there are still a mechanical lock clicking. Probably to extend durability of the locking system. The rail mechanic use inconsistent human hand force which ruin the quality overtime. Press the unlock to pop out the Joycons without applying force with your hand.
