In his talk Arash shares about his personal journey and how losing everything can give the opportunity to win anything.

Arash Aazami founded the world's first energy interdependence company: BAS - Benefit to All Stakeholders, which quickly grew into a serious alternative to conventional energy companies and became one of The Netherlands fastest growing companies and whose business model, the Path to Zero, won two categories at 2014 MIT Climate CoLab Challenge. He recently resigned from the board of his company to dedicate his time to empower people and organisations to find and utilise their full potential.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

Most people who visited this video want to know how one survives losing everything. That is a very important thing when you are in stress or depressed, and feeling suicidal. This video title was a let down - this most definitely was not the right title. Please change it. To others: I do not know how to say "Hang in there" - each one has their pain written in blood. But, you guys made me realize that no matter what I lose (money, fame, power) , I will always have my family - and that is valuable enough. Those who can somehow pull through - I fold my hands in salutation. Hang in there please! Our troubles have no right to win over us.
  • wow how inspiring. i'm near rock bottom myself at age 60; this inspires me to build a better model of myself!

I fell in a coma after a car accident in September 2005 while at university. I was never meant to survive. I wake up after 15 days to be diagnosed a quadriplegic. I started moving in half a month. I recovered well enough to return to university in Sept, 2006 for my doctor to tell me I could only return in Sept. 2011. I didn't listen, I stayed and graduated in April 2011. The doctor never spoke t me again. You can achieve anything you want to, just believe in yourself.

You did not lose EVERYTHING. You lost material things (except for your relationship), which can be replaced. You still have 2 lovely Children!

Had a fire, then a flood, then broke my ankle, three surgeries, started a new business, couldn't launch right away due to circumstances, may lose my house, in debt, discouraged and really emotionally DRAINED. Trying to keep the faith that something good is around the corner.

When someone "loses everything", they don't typically get a lot of job offers, let alone job offers that they can afford to turn down over and over. They'd be on the street, starving. I suppose, though, that "everything" is relative. To a person with cancer, I haven't "lost everything" if I lose my home, job, children, and relationship. That being said, I don't think that most people can relate to this message at all. Most people simply can't identify with the idea that they'd ever be offered a position as the head of an energy company, especially when they've been struggling. I'd bet that most people who watch this, can relate to the title of the vid, but they move on to the next vid right after he talks about that part. It's like watching a Senator talk about how he doesn't have enough vacation days.

I guess 'everything' is relative. Rejecting job offers? You have everything right there knocking. I lost my job, have send hundreds of resumes and I couldn't even get a single interview because companies think I am overage at 40.

I once started from zero, for some reasons I don't know, the moment I felt I have nothing to lose I got more brave and I found my true intentions and goals. it was like a mental reset, a point in life when my path unfolded. Maybe because on zero states, we have the opportunity to take a break, get our heads from the routines, to sit back, and ask ourselves what our real passion in life is.  I enjoyed the video so much, thanks for sharing. Shabo roozet khosh Arash va hamishe movafagh bashi.

l lost 'everything'. Then I got a bunch of job offers which I refused, and went on to become a boss of an energy company. I stopped right there. :D Thanks, what an inspirational talk. Especially for people who really have nothing - you really showed them the light.

  • @inserter400
I lost everything all at the same time, home, job, kids, money and myself. Left with only a broken 💔 heart and no money. The discard is the one thing, I am not getting over.
  • The pain of loss is just so intense, may be some divine intervention to recover

Helping others makes you feel good inside. It is good for your soul. It feels great especially helping others in your own home town. Living in richer countries your money goes a lot further in poorer countries and a you can have a large impact with a small amount of money.
