Steel types are remarkably powerful physically, but their special stats and speed are quite terrible on average. With that said, what if we got access to the full spectrum of Steel encounters in Pokemon Black 2, could they beat the game's hardest challenge - a hardcore nuzlocke with only Steel types?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Black 2 Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Steel types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Hope you enjoy :_SilphWave::_SilphHype:

I gotta admire Silph's bravery for that Clay fight. He willingly chose to risk the entire run just so he can have more encounters later on than sacrifice a few encounters for a much easier fight. If it were me, I would've taken the easy way out and gotten my next encounter right away.

Silph, thank you for continuing doing these challenges, I never get tired of seeing all the classic games again but in a new way. Thanks again 👊👊

The Magnezone line carries so well in B2W2! I remember praising it during my first playthrough. That immunity to poison against Roxy is great.
  • @Rydeman2
Do a run of B2W2 in CHALLENGE MODE. You choose the type.
  • @TheDarkSide11891
Interestingly enough, you can actually get Beldum as your very first encounter in this run using the Dream Radar! I did it myself once for a steel only run of BW2 .

Dropping a 'Daddy chill' whilst I am taking a drink is actually attempted murder

Sewaddle having a higher defence stat than Snorlax makes sense. Snorlax doesn’t really have much to defend itself, it can just absorb a lot of damage (thus high HP). Defence is more about ease of hitting, such as armour or just being small.

Always a good day when Silph has a new video for us. Thank you for putting so much work into these. You are genuinely funny and it's obvious that you care for these games and pokemon. Love to see it!
  • @ya3mour
These videos are an absolute joy. keep it up Silph

I really like your videos Silph. You’d think the concept would grow old over the years, but the commentary and jokes help a lot. The constant type/game change makes them fun to watch.
  • @dariamvs
Gen 5 is my favourite, I'm always happy when you make a nuzlocke in it! <3
  • @Ghostface1998
Every single time that I’ve played BW2 I always make sure to get a magnemite. Such a great Pokémon to use for this game practically a necessity.
  • @reddragonpress
Lucario alone trivializes B2W2 😝 I used one in my playthrough of White 2 and it was a MUCH easier time than White had been for me.
  • Congratulations on winning and you almost beat it deathless too. You will get it next time for sure and keep up the success on your channel bro.
  • @anthonyanglemyer
This may have been one of your best challenge runs yet. I really enjoyed this! Thank you again! Also, according to your pinned Twitter post, your 'project' isn't due until around near the end of February, maybe going into March? Really looking forward to that, your teaser trailer left me with a good amount of anticipation. 😁

I just did a Steel-type run myself last week in the rom hack of Volt White 2 (not a nuzlocke run, just no using items in battles). Pretty tough in some areas of the game. Things to take away from the hack is that if a trainer has a flying type, it most likely to know Heat Wave & setup entry hazards 'cause of sturdy/focus sash users. I did enjoy the type changes to certain 'mons (Probopass is now rock/electric), ability changes (Klink line having Levitate), and stat/evolution changes (Riolu evolves by knowing aura sphere instead of friendship). They also added in Gen 6-8 moves (ex.: Wave Crash, Highhorse Power, Moonblast). Probably play again with a different type when I'm up for it again.

I recently did a steel run in Pokemon Y. Loved it to bits, steel has amazing coverage! Keep up the good work Mr Silph.
  • Are you planning on continuing the regional True Power Tournaments still Silph? I Really enjoy them and find myself rewatching the first three over and over again 😅 much love
