you're the only reactor that I really find so sincere, everyone be saying "oh they're so good" but never pauses, never search up for lyrics, never show interests to learn the message BTS was delivering, you're the only reaction channel that I watch. You're very honest.

it’s one of my favourite bts songs. The song gives voice to their fears. Fear that one day music will not be able to move or influence them. The moment they encounter the black swan within them, however, they are struck by the paradoxical realization that music is all they have. "It's the confession of an artist who really knew what music meant to him.
  • “Black Swan” is inspired by a quote: “A dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and this first death is much more painful” by Martha Graham, a brilliant American choreographer and dancer. “Black swan” is about their fear that some day they’ll lose their passion for music and this would be their first death. They chose to use autotune in this song was to show the group's shadow (their deepest collective fears/secrets) vocally, the fear being that they would fall out of love with their craft. It was RMs idea to use the autotune to blend their voices, (which makes sense since he adores Kanye and Kanye uses autotune on his vocals). Black swan is based on Jung's work of the map of the soul where the shadow, ego and persona (and more) are all equally important parts to a person's construct. The dance moves in particular you can see in the beginning they pluck what seems to be invisible string instruments, while at the end of the choreography they seem to be hanging by those very strings like puppets. Their shadow (fear/secret) has consumed them. Ok, so... the song draws inspiration from both the ballet (Swan Lake) in it's choreo and imagery, but also draws a lot of inspiration from the movie "Black Swan", which in turn is heavily based on the Japanese anime film "Perfect Blue". Both movies break identity and deal (in a non-obvious way) with Carl Jung's theory of the self: Persona, Ego, Shadow. In these movies, a female performer spirals into insanity as increased pressures in her career cause her to lose grip of herself and reality. “Black Swan” tells the story of Nina, a passionate ballerina (Natalie Portman) who struggles to maintain her sanity while competing for the main role (the White Swan, Odette) in “Swan Lake.” Meanwhile, “Perfect Blue” follows Mima, a former (Japanese) pop idol whose sense of reality begins to waiver as she attempts to transition into a career as a serious actress. Both stories feature a female protagonist is put in highly stressful situations and that makes them question their identity and ultimately conjure up a doppelgänger that messes with their psyche (persona, shadow and ego, basically clash). Just as Nina suffers from the pressures of being a ballerina, Mima is also forced to deal with the strict expectations of being a Japanese idol. Their personal conflicts also bleed into their professional lives causing them to spiral out of control. In Nina’s case, it comes in the form of her oppressive mother and in Mima’s situation, it’s an obsessive stalker fan. At the core of the film, both protagonists have a psychological battle with themselves that results in hallucinations that blurs the lines between fiction and reality. In the end, like I said, these films break the self and deal with themes like loss of passion and the heartbreak that come with working for your dreams. Black Swan (BTS), at its core, reflects these themes. I think that Perfect Blue can be chillingly on point for BTS, since they too are idols and experience some of the things that Mima experienced as an idol and continues to go through. BTS reflect the core concepts of these movies, identity, and conceptualise them to reflect their fear of losing their passion for music and, by extension, losing themselves. They portray people who are afraid that music is all there is to them and are afraid of losing themselves if they lose their passion. This song became even more heartbreaking for us after their FESTA Dinner 2022, when they announced they’re taking a break from making music as a group. They expressed that they had been feeling lost and unsure of their identity as a group since the MOTS: 7 (this song’s album) release and the plan to take a break had been in place since then. They planned on having their world tour (MOTS Tour, which got canceled due to COVID-19) and then taking a break to work on their solo music, not only to find their unique flavour as artists, but also to rekindle their passion for music. Reading the lyrics for Black Swan, it makes sense that RM cried after writing this song. It expresses their fears at the time, how they felt like they no longer had an identity and feared they’d die if they lost their passion for music.

The lyrics of Black Swan make you feel as though you are in constant nauseating motion because you are afraid to slow down and must seize the moment. You are afraid of dying your first death as a dancer.
  • @evehhr2
you need to do a live performance for Black Swan, literally stunning, it's my favourite BTS song, to me it's art ,a masterpiece and it's aging like the finest of wines, also the orchestra versions is just >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Try "Home"! Pop sound with incredible lyrics that mean a lot to the fandom. Also Airplane Pt. 2 (Latin pop), Idol (traditional korean instrument sound with a strong beat), Singularity (Tae's solo song, very RnB)
  • @summers6132
Love this song and so happy you gave it a view. If you want another one of their songs in a different genre, try out Airplane pt.2! I used to start days out listening to it! Well wishes and borahae to you and to all of ARMY.
  • You really are the most sincere reactor on YouTube. When I get that notification, I make time to watch you.
  • @inuyashalovergyal
Black Swan is a masterpiece! The beat was produced by PDogg. The producer and written by are always posted above the lyrics in doolset =) Don't forget Jungkook's single Seven is being released on July 14th and hitting radios in the US, so please react to that! He will also be performing the song the same day in Central Park at GMA Summer Concert 💜
  • @danig87345
I get so genuinely excited when you upload, always worth the wait!

When BTS first came out in 2013 they mainly did hip hop and r&b. They started to branch off later on and do other things later but their hearts are in hip hop.
  • @theritztotherubble
Shoes off!! Jimin got to show his experience with contemporary dance in this MV. He was amazing in this video.
  • @gabry0023
Black swan is a song about trying so hard for something and in the end losing your focus and love for it. That's why it's so relatable. It speaks about artists first death of not being able to do and enjoy that art anymore and it hurts more than the real death. Man I really love BTS
  • @pochiemochi5702
I agree, as much as I love their all English songs, their Korean discography is where it's at. I would recommend going over their earlier works, starting with: We Are Bulletproof Pt. 2 - *edited - this is part of their debut album, where they fire back at their detractors early on in their career N.O - this was BTS shedding light to the oppressive school system Dope - here we see a glimpse of BTS' mentality about working hard on their craft Bapsae (Silver Spoon) - BTS' call out to people in power Blood, Sweat and Tears - one word: EPIC!
  • @el-dawn
The lyric is right, actually! It is "Film it now" and now "Feeling it now" and it make sense if you know the context! This is the note under the "Film it now" lyric by Doolsetbangtan: "Every moment, even the moment where they struggle at the bottom of the sea, becomes eternity because it is filmed. This reminded me of the scene where people were holding their phones up to take pictures of SUGA in Interlude : Shadow and concept photos (S version) of LOVE YOURSELF: Answer." BTS is always filmed in every possible moment. It's how life is for them as someone who's in the spotlight. So when they say "Film it now", they're basically saying yeah, go on, film my downfall too or at least that's my own interpretation! 💜
  • @teresaakls4771
Black swan is real work of art!! The music, choreo and visual. But! I think you will like “Mic Drop” and “On” for sure!!! Support from France, keep going man!!
  • @zaryamakayla3880
If you wanna get more into the vocal line I recommend Jimin “serendipity” or “like crazy” (from his solo album) Jungkook “euphoria” V (TaeHyung) “singularity” Jin “Epiphany” or “the astronaut” (from his solo album) All of these songs showcase the vocal line really well and they all have videos so no need to search for subtitles!!
