I own/run an escape room business. These are great tips! Had to giggle over almost all of them... how many times has the clue given been "Look through the books!" or "Don't overcomplicate it". But for owners, I have to say that replacing those stupid combo locks when they first start to fail is key to keeping things a great experience for clients. It's a $5-$10 expense that saves SO MUCH pain for the players, game masters and your reputation. I can't count how many times that people who have done our rooms that complain about other rooms where a lock didn't work. Do weekly checks! (same thing with batteries and markers) Also: Directional locks are the work of the devil - they fail often and early. We do directional puzzles, but they are capacitive touch or buttons with a raspberry pi or trinket to run. So much more reliable.

ever presume the game master wants you to lose? Nope, they want you to be challenged. We tend to want players to see and understand all our cool puzzles. My personal favorite tip: leave keys in their locks. I've been giving that tip to all my players for years
