I don't care what people say, Woodstock, Hippies, the 60's was our biggest success in art culture, self expression and peace + love

Woodstock 1969 was the biggest rock show ever. I couldn't go because I was 16 years old at the time. My friends and I got together and watched it on a dozen TV's at the local Boys Club. When Jimi Hendrix did his version of the National Anthem that did it for us. Everyone really did a great job and Santana got us all going crazy. During the weeks after the show the news talked about how much of a financial loss it was, overdose of drugs and how people lived during the show. The only good thing they said about the show was who the guy was who let them use his farm property and how he sent food to them. After that I thought maybe it was all about the money, because the artist did get paid. But then there was the Festival of Hope in 1970 which was a fund raiser. As the years went by their was the Concert for Bangladesh in 1971. Farm Aid, Live Aid and U.S.A. for Africa in 1985. When Freddie Mercury's Aids Concert 1992 raised money that was pretty cool. But it was 9/11 A tribute to Heroes that really got to me because my Auntie died while celebrating her last day working at the WTC. Now I'm 71 years old and retired and far from being wealthy but I give what I can especially to Childrens Hospitals. What bothers me today is when these kids ask for money to go to a Taylor Swift concert and the tickets cost $1500.00 each. If it was a donation, I'd write them a check on the spot. Sorry for being so long but what goes on today really ticks me off.

The good old days of having fun and not worrying about being perfect.
  • It is amazing to think that all those happy young faces will now be in their late 70.s and 80.s !!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Woodstock was a milestone in the history of humanity, a cultural earthquake that hit the entire world. I was 12 years old, here in Brazil, and I remember when my older brother came home with the album, a double album, and the stories of this great festival.
  • I wrote a play while earning my master's, titled "Woodstock to Vietnam" about two teenager cousins Stvly and Enos, from the Cherokee Nation who were at Woodstock and spent their 3 days at the festival with two teenage girls. When they returned home they volunteered to join the military and were sent to Vietnam . The play then focused on their struggle with life after Nam, and wanting to return to paradise. The characters of the two cousins are based on my cousin and I. I'm 72 it's been a wild ride
  • I was 9 years old that summer, I remember the feeling, and yes, there was a feeling in the air, the Earth, it was a magical time for me, the best years of my life❤
  • I was a guitarist in a rock band in the late 60s including 1969 - the same time as this concert was held . An amazing time to be rock'n on stage
  • My next door neighbor was there that traveled from Georgia with her girlfriend hitchhiking. We badly need that love, peace and together happiness in today's world :(
