Thanks to everyone who has watched, commented, and had some connection to this story. It’s a deeply personal, tragic, but also fascinating period of SA history, and we did our best to do it justice with limited resources and only two days to shoot. I so appreciate each of you taking the time to share in this journey. Our hope is that it doesn’t end here, but is a stepping stone to the full length feature version. Thank you!
  • Very nice. The similarities between this time and place and parts of the American Old West are striking, and I think the English gunslinger is a great parallel concept that you've explored. Good luck with your project!

I hope this gets made into a full film. I love westerns and spaghetti westerns, and the setting of the Boer War / South Africa for a western film is truly original and it somehow works.

OH! I would love to see a full movie about this!🤩
  • as an Aussie who has always been interested in your history, particularly this period, I extend my heartiest congratulations for this piece. The design of our WW1 Lighthorse regiments was based on your Boer mounted militia

Compact, complete, and powerful. Technically, superb. A concept worthy of being developed into a feature film. All the best!

As a boer war enthusiast, I got goosebumps when the vrou pointed out the boers on the skyline, wow!

Excellent well done production. Far better than most shorts. I'd love to see a full length version.

This is a fascinating period, especially from the Boer side. Churchill, Kipling, and Breaker Morant are about the only exposure commonly seen in America. Some can argue whether it was the Americans with their reservations, or the British with their concentration camps, but this was a vicious war .

Thank you for the brilliant short film. It is an emotional part of Afrikaner history and following on the Great Trek, the Anglo-Boer war forged the Afrikaner into a formidable foe and tough people. To this day we are known for conservative thinking, protestant Christian ethics, and an interesting affinity to rural farmliving life and livestock farming. Afrikaner boys are even now known for marksmanship, tracking and stealth. This was also evident in the 1980’s Angola border conflict.

Incredible what you guys were able to pull off in just two days and with a small cast of performers! Great job to John and the team - I hope this opens up many opportunities in the future!
  • In 1881, the Boers won their independence during the 1st war against the British Empire but lost the 2nd one even, in 1901 after the death of Queen Victoria, signing the Treaty of Vereeniging on 31 May 1902. Greetings to you, John, from Indonesia! 🇮🇩🤝🇿🇦
