Elden Ring - EVERY Piece of Cut Lore from the 1.00 Version

The Elden Ring 1.00 version is effectively an official, earlier draft of the game's lore. I doubt you could even imagine how much got cut.

To access the unpatched 1.00 version of Elden Ring, all you need is a disc copy of the game and a console that isn't connected to the Internet. FromSoft also has a history of reusing cut content, which is why I wanted to get this video out before Shadow of the Erdtree.

In this video, I restored ALL of the Elden Ring lore that was cut by the Day 1 patch, which includes lore for Miquella, Marika, the Albinaurics, the Nox, the Greater Will, the Outer Gods, the Flame of Frenzy, Radagon, the Crucible, the Erdtree, the Greattree, Godfrey, Godrick, Radahn, Leyndell, the Primeval Current, Sellen, Goldmask, Morgott, the Dung Eater, Shabriri, Vyke, Rykard, and maybe even Messmer!

Now to get the obvious out of the way, this is all cut content and is no longer officially canon. So do take the lost lore with a grain of salt. But at the same time, I think it would be deeply misguided and myopic to completely ignore everything that's in the 1.00 version.

Elden Ring's unpatched 1.00 version is also in a very unique position when it comes to cut content. Cut content usually involves content that wasn't intended for the public to see or play. And we only find about it either through datamining, leaks, or candid interviews by the developers. But the 1.00 version of Elden Ring was the retail version of the game.

Overall, the basic outline for the story was roughly the same, while nearly all of the cut scenes and the dialogue were the same between the 1.00 version and the current version, with a few notable exceptions I cover. But so many item descriptions (which form the bulk of the game's lore) were drastically different.

  • ADDITIONS/WHAT I MISSED FROM 1.00: Since Loretta was an "Arbor Sentinel" and Miquella was the Scion Empyrean in 1.00, Malenia being an "Arbitress" "implies that the earlier story may have been one wherein the Trees themselves were in more direct opposition to one another, the Haligtree being a plot by many demigods to supplant(pun) the Erdtree. That Malenia is an "Arbitress" in 1.00 can mean one of two things: she is a cultivator of a Tree (Arbor) or she is female mediator between two sides in conflict (an arbiter). It is a nice GRR Martin pun." www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNHZrJ5BIXE&lc=UgyGO8I… Some of Miquella's soldiers wear an Ivory-Draped Tabard, so there is still a connection between Miquella and ivory in today's version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNHZrJ5BIXE&lc=Ugw-fDK… Sceiron in Greek mythology robbed people by making them kneel down before kicking off a cliff, where they would be devoured by a giant tortoise. So it's possible he may have been an inspiration to FromSoft in creating Patches, and in the lore of the game, I could see Sceiron being a mentor figure to Patches, but that is massive speculation. • 1:09:23 The Banished Knights are there due to Morgott “One of the two knights known as the Wings of the Storm. After his banishment, he attracted the notice of the Grace-Given Lord and later, having slain a hundred traitors as the Lord's hand, Oleg earned the hero's honor of Erdtree Burial.” Morgott is called the Grace Given by Gideon confirming this: “Morgott the Grace-Given is Lord of Leyndell, the capital city. It lies at the foot of the Erdtree, in the east of the Altus Plateau.” “One of the two knights dubbed the Wings of the Storm. Despite his banishment, he rejected the invitation of the Grace-Given Lord instead keeping watch over a masterless castle for many years, gaining renown as a hero of the fringes” You can also see the Hawk symbol in the Outer walls of Leyndell as well as Banished Knight and Exile knight armor spread across the area (Which is unique to this area, no other place has Banished Knight armor in the ground like that.) Mean they participated in the defense of Leyndell. This still remains true for both versions of the game.

Only partway through so far, but just wanted to say this is amazing - it's such an interesting topic and it's clear how much work went into presenting it all so well. Thank you!
  • @a.t.6610
I lowkey love a lot of the "earlier" names/titles. The Red Queen.... Queen in Black..... Enchantress Ranni.... Children of Silver.... The Albinauric Pots are interesting as well. Generally speaking, Albinaurics feel like they might have had a bigger role in an earlier draft of Elden Ring's lore and storytelling. The current one leaves things a bit obscure, especially regarding the first and second generation of Albinaurics (they're...so different). On a similar note, interesting that the Moonveil went from being a "masterpiece of a albinauric swordsmith" to "a Sellian one". The relationship between the Nox, the stars, the night, the moon and what all of those things represent to Ranni is also still obscure in the current game, and I wish it was clearer.
  • @agxryt
Holy shit this must've been a lot of work. Just text my boss that I'm sick and need to go home, will be back soon I hope
  • Some additions not listed in the video: The sky inside the Deathbed Dream is the same pockmarked sky of the Dungeater's ending. The Imps Spirit Ashes refer to Imps as insects. The swords the Imps use are said to be Serpent-tongued, hinting that the Imps served the Great Serpent once. Miquella is called the Scion of the Vision, which, when combined with Loretta's helm saying she was gifted to Miquella by Radagon, implies that the earlier story may have been one wherein the Trees themselves were in more direct opposition to one another, the Haligtree being a plot by many demigods to supplant(pun) the Erdtree. That Malenia is an "Arbitress" in 1.00 can mean one of two things: she is a cultivator of a Tree (Arbor) or she is female mediator between two sides in conflict (an arbiter). It is a nice GRR Martin pun.
  • @fredscoffee
Honestly I feel like 1.0 lore was making much more sense than what we have today
  • Finally, someone compiles all of this lost lore. It was all scattered over walkthrough videos, a terrible way to consult it. Thank you for all your work!
  • @wolfiemuse
Video is horribly underrated. Great video, never seen your stuff before this video, love it.
  • @kindasus3749
much needed video. When you said Elden Ring is Bloodborne 2 because of the Gods stuff, the DLC proved you right from the get go. My thoughts exactly: this isn't an epic story, it's a cosmic horror one kept in the shadows.
  • @starlost1003
THANK YOU!! I've been needing a video like this. I've always been fascinated by the 1.00 lore/item descriptions! Great work Goldmask!! Also, im kinda salty about the rykard change. Rykard having a secret lover kinda gives a little more insight into his past/personal life imo lolol
  • “Annoying pest that shoot rope” is exactly what my ex used to call me
  • @TeamKhandiKhane
Unhinged speculation. Dung Eater got into the Haligtree for the same reason Malenia, the Miquella knights, the Grafted Scions, Crystaliens, Pests, and Associated Tree Monsters did. The Haligtree isn't a home for those lost or thrown away, it's a location for experimentation on those with no one coming to save them.
  • Brilliant as always Goldmask, the 1.0 lore about miquella being the one who would succeed Marika, give some weight in a theory i personally had that, basically Ranni fucked up totally, spliting in two ways: 1-She over reacted to the information of being an empyrean and perhaps thought too much about herself and assumed that she would be the next vassal of the Elden Ring. 2- The snow crone manipulated Ranni to think that she would be the next vassal to push her forward to usher the age of stars, since Ranni was the one chosen by the dark moon, the snow crone while teaching her about the moon, could’ve possibly planted the doubt or straight up told her that her destiny was to be the next vassal, making Ranni push her own agenda of the age of stars forward.
  • @LesserStar
the thing about the dragonscale blade being a transposed weapon that was made by someone else is so interesting, i wish these games had of that, like the crescent moon sword from DS3 and how its upgraded with titanite scales, implying it was made from the soul of a "boss" that we dont fight
  • @JackisaMimic
This must have taken a lot of work to do, I look forward to diving into this and learning from these insights! Thanks for doing this!
  • @danbutty4262
Love how when your start a new topic around Miquella/St Trina; Gwyndolin's Theme plays 👌
