In This video we Assemble the 5.3 for the Suburban. I wanted to do a DOD delete since the old motor was bad and I just don't trust the dod lifters. This is a common failure point in all gm vehicles. I show you to process and how to do a dod delete on any gm ls vehicle. It does require several new parts and while we were doing it I replaced the cam with a way bigger option. It can be done on the cheap but I recommend buying all new gaskets and the parts I used in this video. As we go together I talk about the torque specs and processes on how to do the dod delete on your 5.3 6.0 or 6.2. If you are looking to delete vvt and dod this is a must watch how to video. Make your suburban, tahoe, yukon, silverado, sierra, escalade better. Hit the Comments and let me know what you think.......

Really enjoyed the long video! Nice job of taking your time with torque specs and explaining the process and procedure for each part. It's been a long time since I've had an engine torn down like that. ✌🏻
  • @danorourke5184
Awesome detail. I definitely learned a lot! Thanks for sharing
  • @macielandsons
The flat oil pan tool is made to set the front timing chain cover if you take off the oil pan.

Your video was very good! Im doing a DOD delete on a 09 suburban. I thought I was just going to do just the DOD. But it snow ball into a complete engine swap with a few upgrades. I end up picking a forged Lq9 408 stroker bottom,PRC 247 heads,Melling trunnion upgrade on the rockers, Tsp 228r cam. I did most of my work on Toyota cars when I went to school so must of my knowledge is in imports. I have been having to learn the Ls platform for my suburban and truck. Just have to say thank you for these videos helps me learn a lot faster then have to read a boring manual. Even though you always need to double check your progress is correct. The book tells you the right way to do things but may not be the best way to do something’s
  • @DoctorHemi
Seems like you picked the perfect cam for that application. 👍
  • @trentdawg2832
Honestley you should have just went with the dogbone chain guide…those tensioners are junk…but all in all you have gotten really sharp with your LS skills over the years ive been watching you…..the green v6 to v8 swap was the series that brought me here and ive been loving everything youve done in between!!! ….keep livin the american dream my brother!!!

Hey Travis. I'm sure you've seen this but, I haven't until last week. This mod on a NBS Tahoe where you swap out the whole front clip and hood for an HD cat eye front end. Man I think that looks sooo good. Suburbans too. I'd like to see you do that sometime.
  • @keilylmm6377
Nice video Travis well explained in depth with the directions... your son dresses like the me with the jeans and boots.. except my boots are black lol.. 👍
  • @joshuamccann6081
recommend aligning the rear cover with the oil pan. gasket in cover first with black rtv on inner portion (just a bit) also you need oil around the seal lip so it doesnt burn up. then align cover with oil pan then tighten bolts. only way in my opinion to get these to seat properly
  • I'm just seeing this video for the first time, so I wanted to comment on the pushrod issue.. when it comes to the pushrods being (too short) that wouldn't be because of heads being shaved ,that would be because the head gasket would be too thick.. If the heads had been shaved down too much, that would have made the pushrods too long..

I have a 2012 gmc Sierra it has 137k no issues YET. But I want to do the delete just so I know I’ll have a dependable truck again. Ever since finding out about this AFM DOD crap I have been stressing. I always do my oil changes but apparently that doesn’t make any difference. These lifters are eventually going to fail.
  • @GearheadOutlaw
Try the Sac City Corvette cover alignment tools. I got the aluminum version and they are O-Ring and are great. The the flat piece you used is for the front bottom there is another one for the back and is different fyi
  • @joshuamccann6081
oil pump always first. then lube the o ring and install pickup so it seats correctly. extremely risky to not crush that gasket.
  • @ArmenArmenjs
First, Thanks for your great detail video's. Question. I have daily driver 2004 Chevy Aval 5.3 I like to upgrade the cam. I Dont have the means to pull to engine out or the heads. IYO is it possible to swap the cam with the lifter still inside the head, Yes, I know I need to place a wooden dowel inside the oil valley to keep the lifters up. Also, regards to CAM bit more HP and make the engine sound better than the stock cam. What would you advise, single stage to or 2 stage CAM and what brand. Also the valve springs if it is necessary . Thank you so much.
  • Just found your YT channel.Great video!!! Wish I would have about 7 months ago before my brother and I started the LS nightmare involving his 07 Cadillac Escalade Ext w/L92. To date; he has pulled the engine 8 times and invested around $12grand. I owned my own shop for 8 years and was highly recommended before I left Oklahoma so, I am not a newbie. He owns the #1 small engine repair shop in our county so, he knows his stuff also. Being new to the LS game was a wake-up call to the both of us. We are at our wits end with his truck. Can't figure out why the oil pressure keeps bottoming out after it warms up. Going to try to send you an Email. Thanks
  • @bowtiekid329
When you tightened the rear cover w/your impact, I DID NOTICE, that you did'nt go any tighter with the torque wrench! Need to "snug" up the rear cover bolts, and THEN use the torque wrench to completely torque them. Little lube on the oil pump to pick up tube would be nice. Just saying...nice rear main centering and installation tool! DO YOU NEED TO REMOVE THE PRESSURE RELIEF VALVE IN THE OIL PAN FOR THE LIFTER DELETE? (DOD)
  • @trentdawg2832
Heat that balancer hub with a torch for about 30/45 seconds and plop that badboy on there!!
