Has Coyote Peterson KILLED This Centipede?

Brave Wilderness recently posted a video featuring two centipedes: Scolopendra dehaani and the undescribed Scolopendra sp. "white leg" (mislabelled as S. gigantea in the episode). And the latter of the two centipedes appeared to be in very poor health, which is what I'll be discussing in this video.

  • I haven't watched Peterson in years due to how he treats these animals but holy fuck I didn't realize he got this bad. That poor creature didn't deserve that. If they're gonna exploit these animals for their own fame and satisfaction, the least they can do is look after them properly. I only wish I could boycott them more than I already am.

:( great video. Breaks my heart to see the Brave Wilderness channel misusing their platform. At their size they should be breaking down the stigmas people have about nature, instead of perpetuating fear which is in no shortage nowadays.

That poor centipede did not deserve to be treated so poorly

4:56 How the hell did they manage to put this poor Centipede in a enclosure with to much moisture and also manage to not give it enough water ?!?! I feel bad for the poor thing.
  • i watched the live recording of the video and tuned out shortly after the bite. the whole time i was pissed at how they were presenting the centipede as "WHOA GUYS LOOK AT THIS TERRIFYING CREATURE THAT COYOTE IS GONNA GET BITTEN BY" rather than actually saying much information about the actual animals discussed in the stream.
  • @Scytherwolf
I saw that video, it really made me mad for the exact reasons you stated. People working with any animal have the responsibility to care for that animal properly. The "pre-molt" excuse is just wtf
  • Why does it creep me out that not only did the centipede die a slow death of neglect, but it was brain dead and still being held. Literally playing with a dead centipede.
  • Thank you for taking time to not only educate but also hold others accountable for their mismanagement and harm to these beautiful creatures.

Thank you for responding to my request! 😊

  • I saw this video posted on reddit, and was a little skeptical of the initial claim as I have never raised centipedes, but something definitely felt off in the initial clip. Appreciate the analysis by an expert, I think you're right on the money on your diagnosis. I used to watch coyote years ago, but it always felt like he was sacraficing a more educational approach for videos that will get more clicks by the alogorithim. Don't think he should get "cancelled" over this, as I agree the husbandry likely was not his responsibility, but he needs to take this as a learning lesson. You can't bullshit all the scientists and nerds on the internet, he'll need to do better. If I see another example of mistreatment to wildlife, and in particular arthropods, then he's done in my eyes. Also love the Enderal music, literally was thinking about how great the plot of that "game" is today, 10/10 man. Great channel you earned a sub.
  • man i remember back when you were still just starting out with your channel, youve come so far man, glad to see that youre still making content!!

"Coyote Peterson and misidentification go together like MyWildBackyard and Nike," 😂 Your writing is incredible. My heart plummeted when I saw the title, but I feel it's important to watch this video. Thanks for covering it

Wow a very thorough well presented video. I'm not to comfortable with the spider on your head, but if the shock of seeing a giant spider on your head get's attention, I accept it. You presented all the information fairly and logically. I hope the centipede get the care it needs, there might be a chance.
  • You went easy on him, excusing his lack of easily accessible knowledge, mislabelling yet again and being a poor ambassador for wildlife everywhere. He has made a living being known as a wildlife educator, parades himself as an expert and yet I couldn't think of many worse than him when considering the position he is in. He should have all credibility stripped. It's not enough to be blissfully ignorant when masquerading as someone who is suppose to educate and lead the next generations of 'wildlife warriors'.
  • Bro should’ve just not got bitten by any centipedes lol. Knowing how passionate the centipede community is
  • @RioniRiishu
I have to say, as someone who has a horrid phobia of centipedes, you still had me saying, "that poor creature..." Before the video hit its halfway point.
  • As someone starting out in making animal education content I think it's really great how much work Coyote Peterson is doing to prevent me from having imposter syndrome and feeling like I'm not good enough to be doing this. In that way, he truly is a hero. Edit to add: Just found you because of this video and you definitely got a sub from me!
