19:00 Conclusion

The new 2024 Tesla Model 3 comes in 2 new colors: stealth gray (free) and Ultra Red ($2,000). This ultra red Long Range dual motor all wheel drive Model 3 with the new 18” photon wheels costs $51,000 before taxes. Starting with the exterior, the most noticeable change is its all new sleek design of the front end that looks to be inspired by the Model S, plus the new slimmer headlights which look like squinting versions of the previous headlights. If given the option I’d prefer keeping the fog lights, but Tesla seems confident enough in the Model 3’s new adaptive headlights. I still prefer the experience of the old ultrasonic sensors which I feel more comfortable with as it showed me and alerted me on the screen with a fairly precise distance when getting too close to an object. That along with more efficient tires and new 18” and 19” wheel designs with removable aero caps for each - all of that has made this new Model 3 the most aerodynamic Tesla ever, with a drag coefficient of just 0.219. However, I drove it exactly the way I drive my own 2018 Model 3, and 275 Wh/mile is about what I get in the winter in my car which has a 252 Wh/mile lifetime efficiency. I didn’t see any drastic improvement in efficiency compared to my 2018 Model 3, but my car is a rear wheel drive compared to this all wheel drive.

This has an all-new telematics control unit with 50% improved cellular and double the Wi-Fi range including dual-band Wi-Fi capabilities, 5G connectivity, and it has improved Bluetooth connectivity so the car should recognize your phone from further away. Hopefully that will also help it recognize the phone better even when you’re right next to the door which seems to be what I experience every now and then with both my Model 3 and Model Y. Just like previous models, there are dual wireless phone chargers under the center screen, but a new change is that this is also the area where the key card is to be placed when using it to put the car into drive compared to the center console area in older models. The rear seats are supposed to be more comfortable, but I personally didn’t feel too much of a difference during my quick time in the back. It’s nice that Tesla was listening to their customers who have pleaded for a traditional blindspot indicator light that’s most commonly found on side mirrors, but this tiny little red dot wasn’t extremely useful in situations where I quickly needed to change lanes.

You can even get a rear wheel drive trim for $40,000 and you still get most of all the features that make this a great vehicle for the long term. I like to think of the 80/20 rule, and the fact is the 20% of things that make up 80% of the satisfaction is still the same: My old Model 3 is still a quick all-electric vehicle that continues to save me from buying gas, it has the best advanced driver assistance system in Autopilot which still performs the same, and it still gets regular software updates along with it still being one of the safest cars ever made.

The shots of the car and the production value of this video is HIGH! Always love your content on the Model 3s and your experience with them.

Excellent review. I have the 2018 Model 3 in the same color and feel the same way about keeping it. I bought mine used from Tesla last year and there's no way I'm upgrading. I will say your commentary about the lack of stalks makes me feel more comfortable about a change I still think was unnecessary for the new Model 3. However, whenever I upgrade years down the line, I would consider one in the Highland body style.

I test drove my first BEV (a Polestar 2) last autumn and subsequently rented a RWD Model 3 for vacation. When finances align the 2024 Model 3 will be my first BEV purchase. Can’t wait.
  • @GlenMacDonald
Excellent summary, thank-you. I especially liked hearing your comments about going stalk-less, which based on your comments, doesn't sound like a big transition. The quieter, more comfortable suspension would probably be the biggest reason for me to upgrade.

I paid off my 2018 Model 3 in five months after buying it used from Tesla in early 2022. Having no payments is a big deal for me at this stage in my life. I am content with my Tesla and have no plans to buy the new Model 3. Instead, I may switch to 18" wheels for a softer ride, but other than that, I'm set. I've got dual motor, long range with accel boost and FSD. Don't really need much more than it already is.

Turn signal buttons are a pain in the ass to use in Europe where there is a roundabout every 400 yards or so. You have to signal your way out while your steering wheel is anywhere but straight. At least they could add an optional software feature to auto-signal its way out of a roundabout, by looking at your current nav route
  • @peelo801
I was curious if the Acceleration Boost is available for the refresh Long Range? Do you see it as an option to purchase in your app?
  • @anonymoustv5770
my 22 long range is still going strong, no regrets in the purchase. Will be upgrading to one of these in 25 or 26 hopefully

Well, I ordered a model three a year ago and returned it before taking delivery on it. I knew the price would go down and I knew that the Highland version was coming up so later this year I’ll get the Highland model three and it will be my first Tesla yay, by the way, that was a great review and it was very informative. I’ve seen many, but I like the honest nature of yours.

Great video, answered my questions about if I jumped too fast when I picked up my M3 RWD on 12/22/23. I like the dbl pane glass, speakers, probably could get along without the stalks on the 2024. All in all with my 2023 model... I received a nice tax credit, blue exterior on white interior basically for free with the discounts Tesla threw in to get it off the lot. Pretty happy for now, 'nuff said.
  • @0311nate
I really wish they at least put the manual drive/reverse buttons by the phone charger like they did in the s/x.
  • @rxdude5858
I have a 2018 model 3, I ordered the 2024 model 3 in February and scheduled to available by end of March with FSD transfer from my 2018. Looking forward to it.
  • @ted_jerome
Great video, Andy! Superb videography and audio, and well edited.
  • @larsj.jensen5993
Very informative thanks. Any chance you have an opinion on the suspension compared to the newer Model Y’s with soft setup?
  • @jamesvelvet3612
Bought my 2021 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid brand new in late October 2020. Never had a hybrid before and it hooked me on the idea of a fully electric or plug in car. Just made sense to me. Now my RAV 4 is paid off and seriously considering a new M3. Carvana keeps sending me crazy offers to buy my RAV4 (about $8k less than I paid in 2020!). Makes moving into this new Model 3 VERY tempting. Thing is, I've had a Cybertruck on order for over 4 years now and thinking a refreshed MY would probably suit me better (since it will likely be another year or two waiting for the CT). Tesla did send me an email awhile back offering $1,000 off a M3 while I wait. Decisions, decisions..
  • @AsneakyPoptart
I haven't driven a Highland yet, but I recently paid off my 2019 Model 3 and like you referenced in the video, not having those car payments sure is nice. I'm sure the changes/additions are great, but they're not enough for me to start having car payments again. Glad to see you're still making videos as well, Andy. You/your channel is what convinced me to pull the trigger on a Tesla.
  • @ianmcg521
Just watched "Ryans Model Y" channel where he did an "effortless" 7 point U turn using the screen Drive/Reverse command. 7 times his concentration went from outside the car to the screen and back. I do the same in my "stalked" Model Y and not once does my concentration leave looking at the surroundings. No amount of practice will get you used to changing directions via the screen without losing concentration outside. Another safety feature "upgrade" from Tesla??
  • @chrism8481
Nice clear, honest review. Well done. Love that you’re not being swayed by the newest and greatest! I believe this kind of financial decision leads to greater satisfaction with material purchases over the long run. Today I am picking up the same spec’d car you reviewed. My second new car in my life (61 years old). I am very excited :)
  • Just took delivery of mine a few days ago. It's flawless. Quick, quiet, comfortable, fun, interesting, pretty etc.
