Perth 1980 archive footage

Publicado 2022-12-07
Archive footage of Perth, the capital of Western Australia, is located where the Swan River meets the south-west coast. Its suburbs are a succession of sandy beaches and home to the huge Kings Park, on the river bank, and the Botanic Garden on Mount Eliza, which offers wonderful views of the city. The Perth Cultural Center is home to the state's ballet and opera companies, and occupies an entire district, including a theatre, art galleries and the Western Australian.

I turned 20 in 1980. Everything used to close at midday Saturday and so Perth had a lovely relaxed slow paced feeling to it from Saturday arvo until Monday morning. Weekends were truly relaxing then. We were happier.

A time when the AMP tower was the largest building in Perth. You can barely even see it now amongst the giant structures that surround it.

I wish we still had perth the way it was in that video, instead of what we've got now. YUCK.

When 'going into town' to see the Christmas lights was fun and you could hear the paper boys on the corner of Forrest Place calling out 'Daily news... paper!' And when there were enough shops open and in business in Hay St mall to actually go shopping in the city. It's all a bit of a wasteland now.
