Conflict in Ecuador 1 Week into the Mafia War

Published 2024-01-17
One week into this conflict in Ecuador between the narco terrorists and the government, here’s my thoughts and analysis on what’s happening in Ecuador. 🇪🇨

The mafias in Ecuador are partnered with cartels in Mexico, Venezuela, Colombia, and the Albanian mafia. They were unprepared for the strong response from the Noboa government and the first days of this war were devastating for them. However, they will adapt and attempt to corrupt key police and military that are going after them by threatening their families. They will use the same tactics that have been effective in Mexico unless their power can be broken quickly as Bukele did in El Salvador.

  • Thank you for your update. From what I've been able to ascertain, from thousands of miles away, from my Ecuadorian friends who are scattered throughout the country, yours is the most honest spot-on evaluation I've seen of the situation. Again thank you. Stay safe and take care of your family.

Thanks for this. A prosecutor was assassinated today in Guayaquil. I too am in a location where you don’t see foreigners. The curfew gave a little relief but it seems like it’s no longer as respected. Always enjoy the content. Stay safe.
  • Almost every month out here in the galàpagos they capture boats full of weed or cocain. Ecuador has been one of the main corredors for years now.....

  • Sir, your 'sense' is accurate. A person in my family is a Crisis Management Coordinator, Firefighter, and Paramedic, and he agrees with you.

Thanks for that excellent update. You seem to be fair and unbiased about it.
  • Thanks for the update! I'll be back in Manglaralto in April. Lets grab a beer somewhere like we did on the Ice-R

Stay safe and thanks for the honest updates. Just a small thing pertaining to the professionalism of the police and military. When we lived in Ecuador my wife and I would make a game out of finding an officer on duty that was not on their cell phone. It was very rare to find one paying attention to their surroundings!

I lived in two very safe areas of the USA that had significant cartel activity, one in Arizona and one in New Mexico. I also spoke with several people affected by the cartel there. Interestingly if the locals refer to “cartel” and not “cartels” that is a good sign because it indicates there is not a competition. So when I say “cartel” I mean the dominant Sinaloa cartel which no doubt is adding funding and strategy to the trouble in Ecuador. The trouble only pops up when multiple groups are vying for power or one group is in danger of extinction. With competing groups, civilians and officials are left out of it unless it becomes clear to one group that the government favors its competitor.
