  • In the depths of my addiction, I would listen to this song and wait for the end to the end to come. The lyrics pierced my soul and I truly believed I was in hell. As I climbed out of that well, got help, and achieved long-term sobriety (4+ years)- I still come back to this song as a reminder that whatever we did in the past can stay in the past, we can move on and move forward to a new awakening. Sending ❤ to anyone who has been in these shoes. There’s an angel out there to greet you - to greet everyone, they’re here on earth. Like the movie, they can come in the most unlikeliest of places.

I was bruised and battered I couldn't tell what I felt I was unrecognizable to myself Saw my reflection in a window And didn't know my own face Oh brother are you gonna leave me wastin' away On the streets of Philadelphia? I walked the avenue, 'til my legs felt like stone I heard the voices of friends vanished and gone At night I could hear the blood in my veins Just as black and whispering as the rain On the streets of Philadelphia Ain't no angel gonna greet me It's just you and I my friend And my clothes don't fit me no more A thousand miles just to slip this skin The night has fallen, I'm lyin' awake I can feel myself fading away So receive me brother with your faithless kiss Or will we leave each other alone like this On the streets of Philadelphia?

This song breaks me every time I hear it 😢. May God bless all of you out there struggling with whatever it is you’re struggling with. I truly wish I were able to pray for you each individually. Don’t give up EVER!

This song kept me going, my year didn’t start off that well…I lost everything and here I am not giving up and still pushing…this song has been a soundtrack of my 2024

The prolonged instrumental that begins at 2:50 is just majestic and gives a powerful closure to the song. The fact that the Radio Edit cut most of it is nothing short of a crime to this absolute masterpiece and the definite Springsteen piece. It's like Alexander Castro said, after this song, nothing that came from Bruce managed to come even close to the beauty of this song. Absolutely deserved the Academy Award.

Having lost dozens of friends and acquaintances to AIDS, I can't listen to this song without crying.

People are still listening to this classic in February 2024. Hard to believe this Springsteen tune came out this time of year in 1994. It still endures.

As the son of a gay man in the 90’s this song meant everything. Thanks Boss

Omg! I love this Song. I live in Camden, New Jersey just over the bridge from Philadelphia. I'm currently homeless and have an addiction but, I was ran over by a van in 2014. I was on life support 18 days. I have metal rods in my pelvis, pins, and screws, and 17 metal rods in my right femur. It's time for me to find recovery and happiness ❤❤❤
  • This song by Springtein is timeless. He sung it Beautifully. The movie parts were phenomenal by Tom Hanks, Denzel, and Antonio!!! Loved it ♥️

Won Bruce Springsteen an Oscar for Best Song at 1994 Academy Awards

i always wondered why they played this song at the start of the film because it wraps the whole thing up, but then the Neil Young track plays. I will always deeply love this track, I believe it's Springsteens best work.
  • What a heartwarming song! We are all human. Let us treat each other with compassion and dignity, POR SERIÓ!!!!🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
  • It doesn't get any better than did. All of Bruce Springsteen's songs are masterpieces but this one is tops. A great musician, performer and humantarian. My favorite artist.
