Asking the creator completely takes the fun out of the theories

I find it weird that no one has pointed out that memory loss has occurred multiple times during the show. This theory could very possibly be true and the reason they don't recognize each other would be due to a failed experiment that caused everyone to forget and Linda's and Candace's aloofness to the matter of not remembering would be perfectly normal as seen in their reactions when this occurred before. Other things like time and the one date could be that they had the one date, decided it was a no go, Doof got married, Vanessa was born, he got divorced, and then found Linda again. Yes, they didn't like each other on the first night but they grew and changed and Linda did give Doof his new purpose so there is that point on his like for her and Doof is a very endearing father figure so she could have witnessed that and grown to like him. The years where Phineas' and Candace's dad is present are unknown so they could have all been filled by Doof who, after Phineas was born, got divorced from Linda (maybe due to child endangerment due to his constant experiments (which could also cause Linda's extreme reactions when she manages to see the boys' inventions and Candace's subconscious need to initially stop them from doing dangerous things and now bust them)) and could have caused the memory loss by mistake or even on purpose and then Lawrence enters the picture with Ferb.  If we go by having his name written in official documents then we could point that they could think there could be a lot of people name Doofenshmirtz because they never make the correlation that Vanessa is related to Mayor Roger and when Phineas was introduced to him in the movie he didn't have to make the connection since he was young and Candace did have other things in mind, was not introduced until he was a villain and only by last name, and could have had the whole memory loss thing over her. If you want to point to last names then we live in the 21st century and the last name could have simply not have been adopted at all like a lot of people I know in real life or they could have been changed after the divorce which would hint at Doof losing custody and could have caused the grief which caused the experiment gone wrong or right. If we go with resemblance then we can say how Vanessa's head shape vaguely resembles Candace's only that she has a chin but then Vanessa's doesn't protrude as much as her dad's does and Jeremy is the exact same shape as Candace and this doesn't prove any relation between the two.  Doof being the dad would also explain Phineas' love for inventing and his imagination which could be better on Phineas due to having genetics from his mom who is a little more calm and Candace's extreme nature of obsession and her rapidly changing emotions expressed in a child like manner like Doof's. Another thing would be the children's slightly evil or uncaring personalities which show up now and then during the show (especially in the movie which, seriously, don't even get me started on that). Also, in the movie, this could explain why Linda is so afraid of the outside world and defers to hiding in the basement when trouble seems near if the dictator happens to be an ex of hers. I give this four platypi only because it was specifically disproved by the creators but many amazing plots have been written into the story on the fly so there is still a chance.

I still believe this theory is true

One variation on this theory could be that instead of Doofenshmirtz being Phineas and Candace's dad he may be their uncle. Doof's brother lives in Danville and it could be possible that he was with Linda. After all Doof often talks about how Roger always one ups him so after Doof breaks up with Linda Roger could have come in and gotten with Linda. Plus Roger could very well have a lot in common with his brother, especially since he is the younger brother and despite being seen by most as the better brother he still would have looked up to his big brother somewhat.

Like father like son mentality: - Same hair style - Same year structure - Have a background in constructing sophisticated, large projects within a single day - Someone attempting to disrupt their project they have constructed (either coincidental or universally psychological that a father-like-son would inherit that would lead to such events persisting through physical means).

The only thing that ruined my childhood was the fact that this theory WASN'T true.

It's been mentioned that doof invented a memory erasing device so maybe he erased all the other dates they had as well as marriage and two kids.

You know, you dont have to be married to have sex and children. So maybe it was not so much of a one time date as more of a one night stand. And again, what creator is going to confirm a theory about their show, ever?! I still give it a 4/5 platipi

What if Doof missed Phineas and Candace so much after his and Linda's divorce that he hit himself with a mind eraser- inator to forget about all the memories of Linda and the kids, but him being Doofensmirtz, it didn't work completely and left that little bit of the dating memory. Therefore explaining to Perry that he never saw Linda afterwards. This could mean that he could actually be their father.

Eats not forget how similar Candace and Vanessa look. I mean, they're almost exact duplicates of each other in terms of bodily build as evidenced when their clothes get swapped. Then, when they properly meet and hang out, they almost instantly have a bond much stronger than Candace is shown to have with Stacy, her BEST FRIEND, so much so that it's almost sisterly (in my opinion).

In the Star Wars episode Candace after being re-united with Phineas, asks who Ferb is, Phineas explains that it's their step brother and Candace replied, "what happened to Dad?" Phineas says "oh it's a funny story actually-" and then the line is cut off by explosions. The mos frustrating and heartbreaking thing in the series.

I don't trust what the creator say, just because they say that it's not a real doesn't mean it's not real, they just say that because they don't want everyone's childhood to be ruined, who knows
