Salt Does Not Cause High Blood Pressure

Published 2022-09-03
Look at any generic but largely useless set of health recommendations, restricting salt or sodium to lower blood pressure is sure to be on the list. The idea that eating too much salt is spiking our blood pressure is widespread, but is there any truth to this claim? And if not, what are the real culprits of hypertension?

  • As a doctor, I’ve always thought this was one of the stupidest dogmas around that the majority of doctors just follow.
  • I just discovered your channel (I already saw several videos) and I find it invaluable.. It is very encouraging to know that there are still lucid people out there. I will support your channel in any way I can. My most genuine congratulations for your effort.
  • @Sixers-
Salt gives me a noticeable improvement in wellbeing. I think, throughout trying different diets, it is the only substance I have never believed to be unhealthy and always eaten lol.

Salt is probably the only place big food and big pharma disagree with eachother. Because of salt's flavor, big food needs salt to increase it's sales but optimal levels of salt will make people less sick and less likely to be customers of big pharma.

Editing really has improved. The numbers that you talk about appearing on screen as you mention them is worth gold. Keep it coming with the good stuff!

Salt makes me go from dizzy and weak to strong and stable mid my weightlifting workouts. What causes high blood pressure is that we don't have enough potassium as it is and when we eat a lot of salt that throws the potassium out of balance even more
  • I just found your channel. I appreciate your content. Refreshing. Thank you! New sub.

Ive been having around 3-4 grams of sea salt with freshly squeezed lemon juice and apple cider vinegar in the morning before a meal for over a year and my blood pressure is completely normal. We need salt, 4-7 grams daily. Just don’t use processed and iodized table salt, use sea salt.
  • I love me a glass of water with a teaspoon of salt on the mornings when I feel low on energy or with a headache.
  • You got me with the surprise right after the car driving scene! Lol
  • I would LOVE you guys to make a video on Estrogen/ Estrogen Dominance in both men and women. And what the science says on how to deal with it. As a woman with PCOS I only ever got rid of my Estrogen Dominance through a low carb diet and lots of exercise coz that's how I lost most of my body fat which contributed a lot to the condition. It also got rid of my Hypothyroidism. But eventually, transitioning back to carbs after having restricted them for so long just got me to gain all the weight back again and now I'm basically back at where I started. I'd love to hear your opinion on the topic! Thanks a lot in advance !

The real issue is the ratio between potassium:sodium, historically we had much higher potassium intakes than in modern times so we could tolerate salt ad libidum. Now however the ratio is skewed nearly 180 degrees. There are good studies showing reduction in CVD with salt substitutes e.g. lite salt. Wish you talked about that in this video, maybe go into it in a future vid.

I would love to believe what you are saying is true. I'm an African American 57 yr old man who has a family history of hbp. I've been on 5 different BP meds all of which I stopped taking because of the side effects. As far as stress goes I've been severely depressed since the age of 13 and have had anxiety disorder for much of that time. I always said to myself if I could wake uo one day with zero depression and zero anxiety I would be an entirely different person. I probably wouldn't even recognize myself but I bet my blood pressure would be much lower.
  • T2D without Meds, ketovore. High BP treated with co-aprovel 300/12.5. I've significantly increased my salt intake since starting keto. Should I reduce/stop the BP meds?(I'll obviously discuss with my cardiologist). Your information seems to point me towards two treatments that are going head to head with each other. Thanks for any advice you can give me.
