The part when the mother tried to go after her baby but was stopped really made me feel the fear and anger, like a pain in my chest

The fact that this is based on a real troop of macaques just makes it that much more amazing

It is extremely surprising to see how many people doesn’t know that this is how the actual hierarchy works for these snow monkeys. I recommend for the people who found this interesting to watch some documentaries. It is much more fun and interesting than you think.

i want a world where everyone gets the warmth

I didn't realize the background was live action until a quarter of a way through the film.

I love how it feels like a first person animation omg this is brilliant
  • I FELT the pain of being that mother. Masterfully done. It was beautiful

I usually dont like these kinds of animations bcuz they make me feel horrible and makes me sad. They are so realistic and they reveals some of the deepest darkest things of the world, my heart just can't take the harshness of reality.

Honestly, having the film in first person is such a brilliant idea. It personally helped me connect with characters and dispise others. (Spoiler) Like, when the baby monkey was thrown away for being in the water, I personally felt hurt and angry like they'd thrown my child. I felt pain when I saw them get hurt and became so full of spite when the other monkeys laughed and refused to let the perspective protagonist and the others join them to stay warm.(end of spoiler) It's such an interesting concept that was executed so well!!! And the art style was absolutely beautiful!

Nature can be so cruel, but this was beautifully sad. Thank you.

the thinness of the frame makes it feel way more claustrophobic despite it being set in the mountains and i love that holy shit

It strikes me that the we actually get to see Her face at the end. The cam stays focused on her as if to say "...and now you know why" Its also eerie how apathetic the "in-crowd" monkeys are as long as the status quo protects them... especially in contrast with the protagonist, as shee clearly shows the species is capable of deep emotions. Well done.
  • Harrowing and painful to watch. The symbolism (if you will) at the end was heartbreaking yet incredibly powerful. It's amazing to view media through the eyes of an animal, let alone in a species controlled by a harsh social hierarchy. It's refreshing, and I could feel the pains and emotions that the protagonist and their' fellow monkeys felt. Otherwise, I'm speechless; what a film. The brilliant score, ambiance and FX added amazingly to the surrealistic animation and beautiful environment design. I admire your work, and the level of quality you produce. Well done Gobelins, on your final student production for your 2 years! You have truly saved the best for last. While I am sad it is over, I am glad it was all released in the level of quality and uniqueness that makes your school the top.
  • I know some animals with high levels of intelligence have different social structures to those of humans and that we can't judge animals the same way we can judge people, but this animated short shows that animals can evolve to the point of showing cruelty and kindness. Also, even if this animated short isn't accurate about the social behaviors of these apes, I really like the storytelling and the animation techniques.
  • This makes me really want a game where you play through the pov of a ape
  • It is interesting to know that the concept of social hierarchies isn't just exclusive to humans. c'était un beau film. Les différentes textures et couleurs de l'animation étaient sublimes. Quelle belle œuvre d'art cinématographique !
  • @iluvenisp
This was so incredibly sad. And to not understand why they couldn't be inside the hot water is heartbreaking. Seriously sad and beautiful

"Go back, I want to be monke" they said...
