-------------------------------------Key Takeaways---------------------------------

01:22 What is Adrenal Fatigue? The concept of adrenal fatigue is becoming outdated. The adrenals don’t give out. The ovaries give out and shut down, but not the adrenals. The hypothalamus tells the pituitary what to do. The pituitary tells the adrenals what to do. In response, the adrenals make cortisol. It is a miscommunication issue. Most often it is from the hypothalamus and the pituitary, not the adrenal.

03:10 What Causes this Miscommunication? Long term chronic stress is a big influence. . Inflammation and obesity play a big role. Adipose tissue creates its own inflammatory cytokines and upregulates the enzyme 11 beta HSD (11 beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase).

04:50 Cortisone and Cortisol: The adrenals make cortisol first.

06:66 Cortisol from Fat: Fat tissue makes cortisol, causing it to be amplified in the fat tissue, stimulating the growth of more fat tissue.

07:07 Circadian Rhythm: If fat cells are inflamed and there is excess adipose tissue, they may be creating and releasing cortisol all the time. Anxiety is common when this happens. The norepinephrine to epinephrine (adrenaline) conversion happens in the adrenals. It is driven by cortisol. Those of us with lots of cortisol, report being anxious, jittery, can’t sleep, stressed and tired-but-wired.

08:52 Circadian Rhythm Imbalance: Blue light from cell phones at night are a big part of circadian rhythm imbalance. Your brain says that it is daytime. We wonder why we can’t sleep, can’t heal, can’t recover from our workout, cannot lose weight, or why we have anxiety.

11:25 The Liver and Cortisol/Cortisone Production: When the adrenals make cortisol, the kidneys can deactivate it into cortisone and then flush it out of the body. As it is circulating and the body converts it to cortisone, the liver can reactivate it back to cortisol just like fat cells do. In a healthy person, there is an ebb and flow. Certain glands turn it off. Certain glands turn it on.
12:37 Liver Support: Dr. Jones recommends prophylactically taking Milk Thistle and choline, as well as drinking detox tea. Every little bit helps.

13:28 Caffeine and Adrenals: When we depend upon caffeine to get going, and we consume a lot of caffeine, we are whipping a dead horse.

It's like calling a car with engine problems "wheel movement fatigue" instead of diagnosing what is going on inside the engine. Sheesh people who read a title and comment without watching the video. But I've found trying to change language people use is quite often like this.
  • Adrenal Fatigue is no joke. I quit a severe caffeine addiction I had for over 10 years. I experienced back pain and had to go to bed by 7:30pm for a month. After those symptoms passed the difference i felt in my health was absolutely incredible waking up feeling rested after only a 5 hours when i normal sleep 9 and wake up exhausted, sustained energy through the day, the whites in my eyes because super bright white, stopped shedding some much hair when I showered, felt more focus and aware, and really felt more upbeat and cheerful, lost weight, and felt stronger in the gym and better able to deal with stress. I don't know care what you call it or the exact cause but all I can say is that every person should at least try to throw caffeine out of their life permanently because I know I saw an amazing impact that I wasn't even expecting and I will never go back to being a slave to coffee. hope this helps someone

i nearly died from it.. I saw 8 doctors (including an endocrinologist) before i found a naturopath doctor who prescribed me Cortef... I don't object to the idea that Adrenal Fatigue is a symptom. But I do find the title of this video can be a little scary/thoughtless to those of us who walked with the grim reaper for years. Any disease will have a cause, and it makes sense that lots of stress will affect the adrenals. For persons with PTSD, the adrenals are increasingly affected. If you want to consider Adrenal Fatigue a symptom rather than a disease, i can see that logic. But it is VERY real to those of us who have to deal with it.
  • Adrenal fatigue absolutely exists. I was crushing coffee, energy drinks, and taking preworkout to get through my days and workouts. I was over training and under sleeping. Finally my good friend and personal trainer told me it had to stop and that I needed to heal my body. The withdrawals sucked. But oh my gosh do I see life so much more clear. I jump awake ready to take on the day. My energy is a steady state ALL DAY and I get amazing sleep. My caffeine intake is an all time low. 1 cup a day and it is my bullet proof coffee. I think stopping all the stimulants plus starting keto was the best decision I have ever made. Thanks to my friend for giving me the tough love talk as well. By the way I love your videos!

If you think you might have adrenal fatigue and you find a doctor who says it doesn't exist, just leave that doctor and never go back. Adrenal fatigue is a real thing and often found in people with Hashimoto's thyroiditis...which, by the way, is another disease that doctors often simply don't know anything about. If you think you have adrenal fatigue, try the adrenal cocktail: 1/4 teaspoon pink himalayan salt, 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar, 1/4 teaspoon acerola powder mixed up in a tall glass of water.
  • I too almost didn't watch this useful video because of the title. Change it!
  • I read many of the comments and see some people misunderstanding the content. They are not trying to deny or debunk adrenal fatigue, but the etiology is different than originally thought.
  • @evelinel.9827
Look at childhood trauma. Resolve negative emotions and beliefs with EFT (Tapping) to help Adrenal Fatigue, lower stress load on the body and not get mental illness and autoimmune disease.
  • Oh my god, my adrenal fatigue makes this really difficult to follow. Not even kidding.
  • @lobita1991
So here's my two cents on this video. As a nurse who was also diagnosed with severe Adrenal Fatigue (I was bedridden for weeks and sleeping 20/24 hours everyday) I'm very confident with the grasp I have with this condition. There has always been a problem with the actual term "Adrenal Fatigue", it describes very well what patients experience the most (fatigue) and the low cortisol output given out by the adrenal glands. Even in allopathic medicine, most diagnoses describe a symptom ie. Arthritis (inflammation of the joints) but not the cause; and there is usually more than one cause... Allopathic medicine also uses the word "Syndrome" to describe a cluster of symptoms for which there are several causes. HPA axis dysregulation is a more appropriate term but still it does not explains the complex causes and the myriad of symptoms associated. It also doesn't mention the lack of parasympathetic nervous system tone and severe lack of nutrients at a cellular level. Hope this helps a bit

The Adrenals never stop working, but with chronic stress/ high cortisol the body will try to down regulate its effects, seeking homeostasis.
  • When your adrenal glands are NOT producing enough cortisol, you have adrenal fatigue. My adrenals have been checked. In the mornings, I was producing enough cortisol but the afternoon and evenings, my cortisol flatlined. So therefore, I will never be convinced that adrenal fatigue is a myth!
  • @783342
Nobody said the adrenals shut down. They are saying the adrenals are overworked and producing symptons.
  • @ALXD1974
Adrenal Fatigue DOES Exist and Circadian Rhythm plays a huge role to it...Thats how the title should be.
  • @fahadus
Interviewers should look back at this video to learn how to do interviews. Both, the interviewer and the interviewee, did great here. Never stopped conveying knowledge, never stepped on each other's toes and never broke each other's flow. Very respectful to each other, the audience, and to the topic at hand. Well done!
  • After taking two cycles of accutane in my teens i can say that it messed me up pretty bad and I was left with terrible anxiety, depression and many other hormonal issues. I have been on a long journey to recover my health which has taken nearly 20 years but i can now say I feel better than ever! (including pre-accutane) Please be very careful to tell people that they are permanently damaged as this may cause some accutane sufferers to give up hope as well as create anxiety (I read some pretty depressing stuff on the internet when i was struggling and it definitely did not help). Otherwise great video!
  • I'm in that "downward spiral" you spoke of. Can't wake up at normal hour feel like death once I finally wake up, then I'm awake until 1,2,3,4,5 am still awake ugh. It's a vicious place to be
