WATCH TILL THE END.

Shawn was getting an inside scoop in Tony's EDC when he shares this INTENSE combat story.

This has to be one of the most intense close-quarters, hand-to-hand gunfights in a war zone. After being held at gunpoint, Tony Cowden meets the enemy with resistance using his own firearm, and they begin to engage in a ground gunfight. When his pistol went out of battery, he fixed the malfunction on the enemy's back and finished them off.

One of the most intense stories you’ve heard in an EDC? Yes No 👇🏼 👇🏼

To his tourniquet comment, Tony's 100% right. I'm a Sheriff's Deputy and had an incident involving a guy that was in a rollover wreck that severed his arm at the elbow because he had it resting out the window. A trucker got a belt on the arm before I got on scene. I arrived on scene 3 minutes after the 911 call, grabbed my bag, ripped my tourniquet out and put it on higher than the belt and applied pressure on the nub with my hand and some celox gauze. That trucker saved the driver's life with that belt, even though it wasn't stopping the bleeding completely. I was kneeling in 2 pints of his blood while treating him. The trucker gave him enough time to get me there and then I gave him enough time for EMS to get there and do their thing. An improvised tourniquet does a lot more than people make it out to.

His point about networking so even a city boy with no real skills can at least have a few country boy buddies is spot on. His neighbor being a farmer/rancher and him being the security makes perfect sense. We don't have to learn everything! Just bring a skill and make friends!

I remember during my 3rd deployment with the 82nd 1st/504th to OIF I noticed that when we had an SF ODA, or part of a JSOC task force or even an element of SAD shooters come through one of our combat outposts that you immediately recognized these were dangerous and determined men. It sounds cliche but I can honestly say some of the most humble, reserved guys I met during my 8 years in were dudes like this that I hold in the highest esteem. They don’t need to tell you how tough they are, if you have a pulse and basic threat assessment skills you are already well aware.

There is trained, there is experienced, and then there is this man. Between his presence, voice, and skill to tell a story, I could listen to an entire series of his experiences. One of my favorite guests to date. I never thought someone would rival DJ.
  • "if Bear Spray is good for Brown Bears, it has to be good for shit heads"- Best quote I've heard in a good bit
  • @LP3me
This guy is wild. Never heard someone tell stories like this so calmly

I heard Tony tell the hotel story three years ago while shooting with him. It has not changed one bit. Legend.

To have the situational awareness in a moment like that to rack a pistol on someone's back after the malfunction while you're fighting for your life with bullets coming at you while you're holding a bad guy with one arm and then NIGHT NIGHT!! TWO TIMES!!! .. HOLY SHIT!! That's badass 😮😮😮

Love the show!!! Uncle was in the navy, was in Falluja and in Afghanistan he unfortunately took his own life about 5 years ago, so your podcast and what you’re doing really helps bring a lot of peace and realization of what he went through and his trauma. He was a Navy cores-man . They called him Doc. His government name was Ernest William Henderson if you or anyone watching this ever came across him m during your service

I’ve watched a lot of guy’s do the same type interview, but this is my favorite one of all. This guy is bad ass but he’s also humble and and down to earth. Thank you for your service from a fellow serviceman. SW2Guy 🇺🇸
