The A43, a key road linking Oxford, Brackley, and Northampton, serves as an important corridor, offering access to Silverstone and connecting the M40 with the M1.

HS2 engineers have started building the 52-meter-deep piled foundations that will bear the weight of the new bridge. These piles will be capped with concrete and support piers, holding up the 66-meter-long bridge deck over which the road will run.

Once the bridge deck is finished, traffic will be shifted back onto the bridge, allowing construction crews to dig below for the new railway. This phased strategy was developed to maintain traffic flow and minimize disruption.

The unique thing about HS2 is the fact that there are so many obstacles in the way like multiple rail lines, villages, hills motorways, roads, canals etc That is not to say other high speed rail lines have to deal with that too but to highlight just how closely packed together they all are because if the density of infrastructure already in place in south England and the midlands…
  • Thanks for the report and update. Phenomenal organisation to build a new spine railway across an existing range of infrastructures.
  • Wait are they still building this useless money pit of a project?
