I’m here because my girlfriend has said “I hate my skin” as she itches uncontrollably with tears in her eyes and I can tell it is a constant for her and I’m doing my best to finding some options for solutions to help her feel okay. Thank you for the options you’ve given. ❤
  • Telling someone with eczema not to scratch is like telling someone who's angry to calm down._.

I have struggled with eczema since BIRTH... My derm said i will never get rid of it, just make it less bad. Here are things that helped my skin get a lot better: 1. Don't cleanse your face in the morning since you already wake up with dried out skin. Just rinse with lukewarm water and put on a moisturizer and sunscreen. 2. As Dr Dray already mentioned, keep your skincare routine at a BARE MINIMUM. I know this is hard for skin care enthousiasts but since our skinbarrier is compromised, using a lot of products can really aggrevate your skin. Also, exfoliate the skin only once a week AT MAX with a gentle exfoliant like 2-5% lactic acid or urea. Since i cut down my skin care routine to only cleansing (evening), a hydrating serum (evening) and moisturizer (and SPF in the morning), my skin is less aggrevated. 3. Use a very gentle face cleanser like the La roche Posay Toleraine cleanser. 4. Cut out fragrance in your skin care. 5. For the body, use a very gentle soap-free, fragrance-free body wash like the Eucerin body washes or use shower oils and only wash your armpits with a gentle body wash. 6. Use a thick body cream everyday after showering. The Eucerin Urea body cream saved my life. I heard it's not available in the US but you can order it on European online farmacies that ship worldwide like Vicnic 7. Take fish-oil supplements (Omega-3). The fatty acids help your skin retain moisture. 8. Get a hydrocortisone cream from your derm to use on itching areas. 9. Make-up can have irritating ingredients so if you want to use make-up, search for products that are really eczema friendly. I use the NYX Bare with me Tinted skin veil. Guys, the ingredientlist is basically a moisturizer!! It has been soooo gentle on my skin, i really recommend it. No fragrance, no drying alcohols, EU-allergen free and it has some soothing ingredients like cucumber extract and aloe. 10. I know everyone in the skin care community HATES coconut oil, but for us people with severe eczema DON'T BE AFRAID TO USE IT. When the eczema on my face gets really bad, i use a layer of coconut oil on my face after moisturizer in the evening. It really really helps with softening the dry patches and itching. I stopped using coconut oil because of skinfluencers online, and my eczema got really bad for a while. I went back to using it and my skin got a lot better. So don't be afraid to use it if you have really dry skin!! I hope this will help someone <3

1 - Don't scratch, apply appropriate moisturizer with no irritant 2 - Wear loose, breathable clothing 3 - Wash new clothes before wearing it 4 - Avoid extremes of temperature & humidity 5 - Short showers, using lukewarm water 6 - Rinse off sweat & pull water right away 7 - After cleansing, apply moisturizer to damp skin 8 - Manage stress and prioritize good quality sleep 9 - Minimize exposure to environmental allergens 10 - Simplify your skincare routine

Having eczema since birth has really impacted my life, especially going through adolescence right now! I’m going through a flare up right now, which has impacted my self esteem quite a bit, and doing everything I can to keep it calm which is how I stumbled here. These tips have really helped and reading the comments puts me at ease knowing that I’m not the only one in this mindset! If you’re going through something similar , you’ve got this! Keep fighting and never give up ❤️

I randomly developed bad eczema as an adult in my 30’s and this is all so helpful. Thank you!!
  • Don't scratch with a hair brush? Sister I've used dull serated knifes, bricks on my house, tree bark, concrete, you name it lol.

My 3 yr old has struggled with eczema since birth. Some of my personal tips for your kiddos: •100% cotton pajamas worn INSIDE OUT (the seams can be irritating!) •Invest in special eczema clothing - pull on sleeves that cover the limbs completely (or just the joints.) Having that extra layer on the itchiest spots helps protect while scratching. Shirts with fold over mittens were a lifesaver overnight, when my little one's eczema was at it's worst at age 1. •Try not to use anything on yourself that could irritate your child. Our entire family now only uses fragrance free products. •Huggies special delivery diapers are THE SOFTEST diapers in existence. •Zyrtec - if your doctor says it is safe. In my skin care arsenal: Aveeno eczema therapy cream Cerave eczema creamy oil Cerave healing ointment Exederm flare cream Aveeno baby eczema cleanser Vanicream shampoo and conditioner Organic jojoba oil Colloidal oatmeal (for bath) I also have topical steroid treatment from his derm, but only use it sparingly for flare ups. I was apprehensive to use steroids and wish I'd tried it sooner. Good luck to those that are struggling!

This is a cruel life we suffer so much who else is having a hard time?

Thank you for this video! I am a child and have been struggling with eczema since birth. It's been hard because people don't understand the pain and young children look at me like I'm a monster. Im so insecure about it and like to hide my face! Thanks for the tips and support! Also, my dermatologist just yells at me for not taking care of my skin but I'm trying!

This is so true. As someone with severe eczema since birth, my skin condition has gotten better by itself since I moved from Pacific island to North America. Aveeno is so far the most affordable and best choice for my skin. I have been using Aveeno lotion, hair shampoo, and facial oat gel. They are really worth of trying. Thank you Dr. Dray for the recommendation.

I had persistent eczema on the left upper eyelid for almost 3 years. I went to several doctors and nothing helped until I realised that every time I was using a Maybelline mascara it was flaring up my eczema. Now I have changed my entire makeup and skincare routine to vegan and cruelty free products. My eczema is gone ❤️ from Australia
